Description

Department Overview This position reports to (supervisor): Chair, Dept of Neurology and Head, Division of Aging and Alzheimer’s Disease The Oregon Layton Aging & Alzheimer’s Disease Center (OADC) closely integrates its clinical mission with its designation as an NIA-funded Oregon Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (OADRC). The Memory Assessment and Aging & Alzheimer’s clinics are located at the OHSU CHH1 clinic and are staffed by specialty-trained cognitive or geriatric neurologists, a geriatric psychiatrist, two advanced practice providers, two neuropsychologists, a nurse, a patient care coordinator, and a social worker. Geriatric neurology and psychiatry fellows also contribute to the clinical team. This highly experienced specialty team is widely recognized across the Portland metropolitan area, the state of Oregon, and the Pacific Northwest. Patients are typically referred for evaluation of adult onset cognitive disorders, diagnostic clarification, treatment recommendations and implementation, and information regarding clinical trial opportunities. Applicants are expected to demonstrate expertise in the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative dementias, and initiate monoclonal antibody treatments, as clinically appropriate. Given the growing demand for services, appointments are available by referral from neurologists and related specialists. As part of the OADRC research process, new patients are presented at a weekly team meeting where cases are reviewed and standardized diagnosis are assigned. Function/Duties of Position The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the University's missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. Appointee shall have a demonstrated competence in patient care and teaching/mentorship. The most desired candidate will also have interest/experience in research/scholarship/discovery and/or administrative leadership. Teaches trainees and support staff in their area of professional expertise. Teaching is done during the course of the year and through teaching in the course of performing their own job by modeling best practices, mentoring trainees, and guiding learning through delegating graduated and focused levels of responsibility. Provides an outstanding level of professional performance (e.g. quality of clinical care for clinical faculty). Professional performance is to be delivered in a manner that is compliant with the regulations and guidelines of all relevant regulating bodies. Treats all patients, research participants, trainees and co-workers with dignity and respect. May maintain a program of scholarly research activity directed toward improved understanding of the causes, detection, and treatment of Alzheimer's disease and related disorders. May develop and direct scholarly research activities focused toward improving the educational foundation within Neurology. May engage in public service through consultative activities with OHSU and non-University groups as approved by the Chair. May also participate in additional departmental or hospital administration as approved by the Chair. Work Schedule, Hours, FTE, Salary Range: FTE: 1.0 FTE Schedule: Weekday outpatient clinic responsibilities - TBD Attending two - four weeks / year - TBD Salary: Commensurate with Experience Location: Portland, OR (Marquam Hill Campus) Job Type: Faculty/Neurologist Required Qualifications Position Conditions/Qualifications: Doctorate in medicine & residency training in Neurology. Fellowship training in Alzheimer's disease and related disorders. Demonstrated competence in patient care & teaching. Current unlimited Oregon MD/DO (or equivalent) license prior to start. Registered with Federal Drug Administration and be authorized to prescribe medications. Board certification or eligibility for board certification in Neurology is required. Ideal candidates will have interest and expertise in research/scholarship/discovery. Compliance: Code of conduct Respect in the workplace Applicable law, policies, procedures, positions certifying agencies and agreements related to position, department, or OHSU as a whole All duties and responsibilities of the Neurology provider conform to the credentialing process, OHSU Hospital Medical Staff and University Medical Group (UMG) guidelines.
