Description

Description The Admission Counselor role is a vital member of Davidson’s Office of Admission and Financial Aid and plays a crucial role in identifying, attracting, and enrolling the best and brightest students from across the country and the world. This position also plays several key support roles related to all aspects of the work, from recruitment and outreach to territory management and yield. The Admission Counselor will be responsible for conducting information sessions for campus visitors, evaluating applicants for admission, and managing all recruiting aspects of an assigned territory which will include traveling to college fairs and high school visits, and other regional events. They are also tasked with building and maintaining strong relationships with prospective students and their families, high school counselors, and community-based organizations. They must possess the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, work independently and collaboratively, and maintain a strong attention to detail. Essential Job Functions: Manage an assigned regional travel territory under the direction of the leadership team. Territory management includes building and maintaining strong relationships between the College and prospective students and partners through high school visits, college fairs, counselor meetings, coffees/receptions, community-based organization engagement, alumni meetings, college panels, and case study programs. Engagement occurs in both in-person and virtual settings. Review applications by evaluating academic preparation and personal characteristics to advocate for applicants while supporting the College’s enrollment and scholarship goals. Primary responsibility includes reviewing applications from an assigned regional territory, with additional reading as needed, and presenting applications during committee meetings. Host on-campus and virtual information sessions for prospective students and families, as well as open house programs and other admission events during business hours and additional weekends and evenings as assigned. Support the College’s efforts to identify, recruit, evaluate, and enroll students from traditionally underrepresented groups (including those who identify as low-income, first-generation, or rural). Respond promptly to new inquiries and maintain consistent communication with students and other stakeholders throughout the admission process. In addition to presenting information sessions and reviewing applications, contribute to additional office initiatives. Responsibilities may include managing current student and alumni volunteers, supporting social media initiatives, assisting with admission event planning, managing data and reporting, coordinating athletic or arts recruitment, supporting visit programs, and assisting with scholarship initiatives. Required Knowledge & Qualifications Bachelor's degree Ability to multitask, prioritize and problem solve as challenges arise within a fast paced, deadline-oriented work environment. Ability to manage multiple deadlines Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an interest in public speaking. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Empathetic, good-humored and professional demeanor with excellent, inclusive internal and external customer service skills that keep the best interests of Davidson College and guests in mind. Appreciation for and sensitivity to a diverse academic community, fostering an inclusive environment for students, faculty, and staff from a variety of social, economic, cultural, ideological, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.
