You should be a safety leader that is quick to respond and ready to protect our members. You will learn life skills such as multi-tasking, time management, organization, and how to effectively navigate difficult situations. HOURS AVAILABLE: Seeking opening hours of 4:45am-9:00am - Urgently Hiring Day time hours of 9:00am - 2:00pm Weekend Hours of 7am-1pm ALL Availabilities are welcomed to apply! Not a Certified Lifeguard Yet? Click here to register for an upcoming Lifeguard certification course. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Maintains active surveillance of the pool area. Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Completes related reports as required. Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code. Walks the perimeter of the pool scanning the bottom before taking over the lifeguard stand. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed. Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving. Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action. Attends all staff meetings and in-service training. Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staff. QUALIFICATIONS: 15 years of age or older Current YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard certification or equivalent Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness Emotional resiliency and cognitive abilities to carry out job responsibilities Ability to establish and maintain appropriate professional relationships with members and peers Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards Benefits of working part-time at GSCY include: FREE Individual Membership Access to any YMCA in the Nation. 10% Discount on most programming at Greater Somerset County YMCA.
