Description
The Pipefitter is responsible for the installation, fabrication, maintenance, and repair of piping systems used in chemical processing operations. This role ensures that all piping systems are installed and maintained safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and plant procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Install, assemble, fabricate, and maintain piping systems including valves, fittings, and supports for process, utility, and safety systems
Read and interpret P&IDs, isometric drawings, and blueprints to determine layout and installation requirements
Measure, cut, thread, and weld pipe using appropriate tools and techniques
Perform hydrotesting, leak testing, and system verification to ensure integrity and compliance
Troubleshoot and repair piping systems to minimize downtime and maintain safe operations
Install pipe supports, hangers, and brackets following engineering standards
Work closely with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to support plant projects and day-to-day operations
Participate in plant turnarounds, outages, and capital projects
Follow all safety procedures, OSHA standards, and PSM requirements
Maintain clean and organized work areas and ensure proper handling of materials
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; vocational or technical training preferred
3+ years of industrial pipefitting experience (chemical, petrochemical, or refinery environment preferred)
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings (P&IDs, isometrics)
Experience with carbon steel, stainless steel, and specialty alloy piping systems
Knowledge of welding procedures, rigging, and pipe fabrication techniques
Strong understanding of plant safety standards and safe work practices
Skills
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability
Ability to work independently or as part of a team
Effective communication and coordination skills
Attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50–75 lbs
Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb for extended periods
Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and during plant outages as needed
Work Environment
Chemical plant environment with exposure to noise, chemicals, and industrial equipment
Requires adherence to all PPE and safety protocols
