    "description": "<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">SUMMARY OF FUNCTION:</span></span></p>\n<p><br>This position is responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of all parks, pathways, <br>sports fields, cemeteries, and related park amenities within the department’s area of responsibility.</p>\n<p><br><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:</span></span></p>\n<p><br><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Level I</span></p>\n<ol>\n<li><span>Operates (at a basic level) the following equipment: chainsaw, front-end loaders, mowers </span>(ride and push), forklift, hand tools, bucket trucks and snow removal equipment;</li>\n<li>Supports the training, supervision and mentoring of department staff during the summer <br>months to ensure that day-to-day functions are followed and refers unusual problems or <br>policy matters to the Parks Foreman; <br></li>\n<li>Maintains equipment and hand tools utilized in the performance of day-to-day tasks;<br></li>\n<li>Interacts and works with the full-time staff and seasonal summer staff performing work in the <br>areas of the department’s responsibility; <br></li>\n<li>Performs construction and maintenance tasks; operates a power saw and brush cutter at <br>ground level; falls and bucks trees and performs related park forestry operations; <br></li>\n<li>Assists in flower beds, shrub and tree pruning, outdoor ice rink maintenance, snow removal, <br>sanding and other related duties; <br></li>\n<li>Ensures that City-owned washrooms are clean and tidy; <br></li>\n<li>Provides emergency assistance when required;<br></li>\n<li>Performs general inspections and maintenance of vehicles and equipment and documents <br>any required maintenance; and <br></li>\n<li>Performs other duties as assigned. <br></li>\n<li>Completion of a High School Diploma or equivalent; <br></li>\n<li>No experience necessary;<br></li>\n<li>Education or experience in horticulture an asset; <br></li>\n<li>Valid Class 5 Driver’s License; with Q Endorsement preferred; <br></li>\n<li>Clean Driver’s Abstract; <br></li>\n<li>Standard First Aid;<br></li>\n<li>Chainsaw Safety and Cutting Techniques Training; <br></li>\n<li>Flag Person Certificate preferred; <br></li>\n<li>Fall Protection Certificate preferred;<br></li>\n<li>Physically able to perform required duties; <br></li>\n<li>Ability to plan, prioritize and manage own workload including the ability to tolerate frequent <br>interruptions and still meet deadlines;<br></li>\n<li>Ability to work independently and in a team environment; <br></li>\n<li>Ability to understand and carry out instructions and perform manual tasks; <br></li>\n<li>Public relations, interpersonal and verbal communication skills;<br></li>\n<li>Previous experience in a municipal parks environment, golf course or landscaping would be <br>an asset;<br></li>\n<li>Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding department and municipal matters; and <br></li>\n<li>Subject to a criminal record check.</li>\n</ol>\n<p><br><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Level II</span></p>\n<ol>\n<li>Completion of a High School Diploma or equivalent;</li>\n<li>Minimum of six (6) months to one (1) year of experience in parks operations or related field; <br></li>\n<li>An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered;</li>\n<li>Education or experience in horticulture an asset;</li>\n<li>Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence with Q-Endorsement;</li>\n<li>Clean driver’s abstract;</li>\n<li>Fall Protection Certificate;</li>\n<li>Flag Person Certificate;</li>\n<li>Standard First Aid;</li>\n<li>WHMIS Certification;</li>\n<li>Chainsaw Safety and Cutting Techniques Training;</li>\n<li>CSA Playground Certificate OR Pesticide Applicator Certificate;</li>\n<li>Parks &amp; Sport Fields Operator Level 1 Certificate;<br></li>\n<li>Ground Disturbance preferred;</li>\n<li>Confined Space preferred; <br></li>\n<li>Physically able to perform required duties;<br></li>\n<li>Ability to plan, prioritize and manage own workload, including the ability to tolerate frequent <br>interruptions and still meet deadlines; <br></li>\n<li>Ability to work independently and in a team environment; <br></li>\n<li>Ability to understand and carry out instructions and perform manual tasks; <br></li>\n<li>Willingness to obtain Class 3 Driver’s Licence with Q-Endorsement; <br></li>\n<li>Public relations, interpersonal and verbal communication skills;<br></li>\n<li>Previous experience in a horticultural field, including but not limited to a municipal parks <br>environment, golf course or landscaping, would be an asset; <br></li>\n<li>Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding department and municipal matters; and <br></li>\n<li>Subject to a criminal record check.<br></li>\n</ol>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Level III</span></p>\n<ol>\n<li>Completion of a High School Diploma or equivalent, supplemented by the Journeyman Landscape <br>Horticulturist designation or enrolled in the Landscape Horticulturist Apprenticeship program; <br></li>\n<li>Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of experience in parks operations or related field; <br></li>\n<li>An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered;<br></li>\n<li>Education or experience in horticulture an asset; <br></li>\n<li>Class 5 Driver’s License with Q-Endorsement;<br></li>\n<li>Clean driver’s abstract; <br></li>\n<li>Pesticide Applicator Certificate; <br></li>\n<li>Advanced Chainsaw Safety and Cutting Techniques Training; <br></li>\n<li>CSA Playground Certificate; <br></li>\n<li>Fall Protection Certificate;
