Description
Climate Fund Managers is a climate-focused blended finance investment manager operating in emerging markets across Latin America, Africa and Asia. We raise and deploy blended climate finance funds, working in partnership to deliver climate-resilient solutions at scale and pace.
With over USD 2.8 billion in assets under management and targeting an additional USD 4 billion, our private equity and private credit facilities address key areas of climate change mitigation and adaptation, including: renewable energy; water, waste and maritime; energy transition and green hydrogen; and sustainable cities and the built environment.
We currently have over 50 active projects across our Climate Investor One, Two and Three equity funds and have recently expanded into private credit through the GAIA Climate Loan Fund.
Our funds are supported by public and private sector organisations. Public capital is deployed strategically to balance risk and mobilise private sector capital, enabling investment across the project lifecycle - from development to construction and operation.
Established in 2015, Climate Fund Managers is a joint venture between Dutch development bank FMO and Sanlam InfraWorks of the Sanlam Group of South Africa, with offices in The Hague, Cape Town, Singapore, and Bogotá.
Job Purpose
We are seeking a Investment Manager to strengthen our Investments and Asset Management team. This role will report to the Regional Head of LatAm and is based in our Bogota office in Colombia. The Investment Manager interfaces with local and international CFM divisions and offices.
As a leader in the sustainable finance sector and a pioneer in the renewable energy, water sanitation, oceans infrastructure and green hydrogen sectors. We are committed to driving positive environmental impact through strategic investments in climate-related projects. The Investment Manager will play a pivotal role in executing our investment strategies, managing a portfolio of renewable energy infrastructure for Climate Investor One and water sanitation, waste to energy and oceans infrastructure assets, for Climate Investor Two, contributing to the transformation of the Latin American economy and the transition to a clean energy future.
Management and execution of CIO (25%) CI-2 (75%) Fund Managers Investment and Fundraising Strategy for LatAm .
Implement investment and fundraising strategies that align with the fund’s climate objectives, with a particular emphasis on managing a portfolio of water sanitation, and oceans infrastructure projects in LatAm, taking into consideration ESG factors and the potential for positive environmental impact.
Portfolio Management
Manage a diverse portfolio of water sanitation and oceans infrastructure assets, including production, storage, distribution, with a focus on strategic projects in LatAm.
Due Diligence
Conduct thorough due diligence on potential investment opportunities, assessing financial viability, evaluating technology readiness, environmental sustainability, market potential and key risk factors.
Deal Structuring
Collaborate with the broader investment team to structure deals, negotiate terms, and secure financing for water sanitation and oceans infrastructure projects in LatAm.
Risk Management
Monitor and mitigate risks associated with water sanitation and oceans infrastructure investments, implementing strategies to preserve capital and maximize returns.
Impact Measurement
Maintain robust impact measurement frameworks to track and report on the environmental benefits of investments.
Stakeholder Relations
Foster strong relationships with project developers, partners, and stakeholders in the water sanitation, and oceans infrastructure ecosystem.
Compliance
Ensure investments are compliant with all regulatory and ethical guidelines, staying up to date with relevant regulations and industry standards.
Team Management
Provide management, mentorship, and guidance to junior investment professionals, promoting a collaborative and growth-oriented work environment.
Qualifications and Experience
Chartered Accountant, CFA or Engineer with MBA or equivalent master’s degree.
A minimum of 10-years of experience in investment banking, corporate finance with a strong track record in deal structuring and financial reporting in the Renewable Energy, Water, Waste to Energy and Oceans Infrastructure sector.
Strong analytical, communication and negotiation abilities.
English language proficiency in additional to other LatAm languages: Spanish, Portuguese and others
Proven ability to work across technical/financial and legal aspects of a transaction and work with various specialists internally and with government/shareholder/lender type stakeholders to provide transaction leadership.
Knowledge of relevant regulations and ESG Principles, compliance requirements, including but not limited to IFRS standards.
Ability to plan and prioritise effectively: strong project / process and team management skills.
Ability to apply sound business judgment and an analytical, pragmatic, and creative approach to problem solving.
Technically proficient (Advanced) in Excel, Word, PowerPoint essential.
Experience with working in LatAm or other emerging markets is a plus.
