    "description": "<h2>Overview</h2>\n<p><strong>Location: </strong>Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Hours of Performance: </strong>Services shall be provided Sunday through Saturday between 0600 and 0600 for one hundred thirty-five (135) hourper week. </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Benefits:</strong> Vest vacation, sick leave, holiday leave, Life, Accidental Death and Dismemberment, Short Term Disability</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Optional Benefits:</strong> Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(K) matching with employee participation in 401(K) plan</p>\n<h2>Responsibilities</h2>\n<p>-The HCW shall provide services as an advanced practice nurse with specialty education andclinical skills. Providing independent management of women’s health care, focusing particularlyon pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, care of the newborn, family planning, postmenopausal and gynecological needs of women. The HCW shall utilize professional knowledgeand skill in physical assessment, clinical management of gynecological and obstetrical problems,health maintenance, disease prevention and management of total health care needs of women andnewborns. The primary work settings are the Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN) and Laborand Delivery Departments, although the HCW may provide services in other areas of thehospital. The HCW shall provide technical guidance of patient care and work with othermembers of the healthcare team as consultant, clinical guide, mentor, teacher, and/or teammember. Services shall be provided in accordance with the Standards for the Practice ofMidwifery, as defined by the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM).-The HCW may be upright in motion and without rest for more than twenty-four (24) hoursstraight. Clinic and call time rotates and may include weekends and holidays as specified in theposition-specific statement of work.-Provide a full range of nurse midwife services in accordance with privileges granted by the MTFDirector.-Perform physical assessment and exam with special emphasis on the reproductive health, sexualhealth, psychosocial and OBGYN history of the patient.Manage the care of normal antepartum women to include teaching, counseling and support.Manage uncomplicated pregnancies independently (inclusive of teaching, counseling andsupport).-Manage complicated pregnancies through consultation and/or collaboration with OBGYNmedical staff.-Consult with other specialists, clinics, or health resources as indicated.-Write prescriptions for needed medications including but not limited tocontraceptive, diabetic, psychiatric, thyroid, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and painmanagement</p>\n<p>-Order laboratory tests and radiographic procedures as needed for diagnosis.-Assess and treat the acute OBGYN patient with episodic illnesses and consults when needed.-Assess and treat minor gynecological problems and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).-Treat partners of OBGYN patients with STDs.-Develop health promotion and maintenance plans including disease prevention and healtheducation counseling.-Provide periodic health screening.-Admit and discharge patients to and from OBGYN inpatient services.-Facilitate transfer of care to another facility.-Manage patients in labor, including inpatient orders, amniotomy, external and internalmonitoring, initiation of induction/augmentation agents and analgesia using-intramuscular and intravenous narcotics and potentiators, and local anesthesia administration.-Manage cephalic deliveries, including repair of laceration or episiotomy.-Assess and manage uncomplicated postpartum patients.-Manage newborns, including airway management, resuscitation, endotracheal intubation,assignment of Apgar scores and initial examination.-Identify and manage medical emergencies including but not limited to shoulder dystocia,postpartum hemorrhage, uterine inversion, cord prolapse, and eclampsia.-Provide clinical guidance for residents, trainees, students, rotators, new or temporary departmentmembers and other hospital staff.-Maintain communications with professional organizations as necessary for career development,licensure and clinical continuing education.-Provide comprehensive primary care to a select population of essentially healthy women and theirbabies in a variety of settings to include prenatal care, intrapartum management, postpartum care,immediate newborn care, and well-woman visits.</p>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<p><strong>Degree/Education</strong>: Master's degree in nursing. Graduate from a certified nurse midwifeeducation program accredited by the American College of Nurse Midwives.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Experience</strong>: Have a minimum of two (2) years of full-time experience working as a CNM within thepast three (3) years. As required to meet clinical competency requirements specified inthe Service-specific credentialing instructions.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Licensure: </strong>Possess and maintain a current unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse inanyone (1) of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico,Guam or the U.S. Virgin Islands.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Certifications: </strong>Certified by the American Midwifery Certification Board. Current NeonatalResuscitation Program (NRP) certification.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p> Provide two (2) letters of recommendation written within the last two (2) years attestingto the HCW’s clinical skills. A minimum of one (1) of the letters must be from asupervisor. The other letter must be from either clinic or hospital administrators orpracticing physicians.
