Overview:
The Mid-Level Environmental Scientist provides support projects across the United States for clients, applying the latest technologies to conduct field investigations and remediate contaminated sites.
IMPORTANT: FPM Remediations, Inc. is an 8(a) HUBZone business certified by the Small Business Administration (SBA). FPMR employees who live in a HUBZone, may be eligible to receive additional earnings paid on a bi-weekly basis. These additional earnings will be paid following verification and provision of supporting documents. The HUBZone earnings will continue to be paid if residency in a HUBZone is maintained.
Primary Responsibilities:
Provides technical coordination of quality field work and the production of technical planning documents and reports. Participates in field programs that include the collection of soil, surface water, groundwater, sediment, and air samples. Oversees and monitors subcontractor work, to include drill rig crews, surveyors, construction crews, and remediation work. Provides support in the preparation of technical reports, which may include importing electronic laboratory data reports into FPM’s and clients’ data management systems.
Evaluates data quality and usability.
Prepares written reports of field activities, observations, and findings and preparing graphics and figures of results.
Provides contactor management.
Provides analysis and interpretations of findings based on scientific experimentation and existing knowledge.
Participates in identifying viable remedial solutions consistent with all federal, state, and local regulations.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
There are no supervisory responsibilities associated with the position.
Educations and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in an environmental science and/or environmental engineering, with a preferred focus on geology, and coursework in chemistry, physics, and mathematics. Five or more years of relevant professional experience in the field of environmental investigation and remediation, implementing environmental remedial actions, and overseeing construction. 40 HR OSHA Hazwoper training. Prior experience working on Department of Defense projects is a major plus (e.g. USACE, AFCEC, NAVFAC).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to travel. Ability to participate in safety training and follow company safety standards. Excellent technical report writing and communication skills. Ability to work and collaborate effectively as a team member. Knowledge of remediation system operation and maintenance (OM&M) activities. Ability to perform hydrogeological assessments regarding groundwater flows to identify contamination impact and related concerns. Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and guidance. Attention to detail. Ability to analyze chemistry and environmental data. Effective decision making and problem-solving skills. Ability to adapt to changing situations. GIS experience is a plus. Experience with Microsoft Office applications, and extensive experience in Excel is preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
A professional certification, registration, or license in their respective field is a plus.
Security Clearance:
Must be able to successfully complete a U.S. government administered investigation.

Field work is performed in on various outdoor terrain and regularly requires the ability to navigate uneven ground or other obstacles found in natural surroundings.
Travel:
Travel to field sites will be required as needed, ~40 to 60% travel initially. Travel may involve participation in and/or coordination/supervision of field work; and presentations and/or meetings with clients and other project stakeholders.
Work Environment:
General office and field work environment. Travel may be required based on business demands.
