Description
About Cyngn
Based in Mountain View, CA, Cyngn is a publicly-traded autonomous technology company. We deploy self-driving industrial vehicles - specifically autonomous tuggers - to factories, warehouses, and other facilities throughout North America. To build this emergent technology, we are looking for innovative, motivated, and experienced leaders to join us and move this field forward. If you like to build, tinker, and create with a team of trusted and passionate colleagues, then Cyngn is the place for you. Key reasons to join Cyngn:
We are small and big.
With under 100 employees, Cyngn operates with the energy of a startup. On the other hand, we’re publicly traded. This means our employees not only work in close-knit teams with mentorship from company leaders—they also get access to the liquidity of our publicly-traded equity.
We build today and deploy tomorrow.
Our autonomous vehicles aren’t just test concepts—they’re deployed to real clients right now. That means your work will have a tangible, visible impact.
We aren’t robots. We just develop them.
We’re a welcoming, diverse team of sharp thinkers and kind humans. Collaboration and trust drive our creative environment. At Cyngn, everyone’s perspective matters—and that’s what powers our innovation.
About this role:
Cyngn is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer who can own the mechanical design, integration, and release of major vehicle systems — while mentoring others and setting the technical bar for mechanical engineering at the company. This is a high-impact, technically demanding position where you will drive the development of core mechanical systems from concept through mass production. You will be responsible for specifications, CAD design, analysis, prototyping, testing, and release, while coordinating across teams and with external partners to deliver high-quality systems.
Responsibilities
Drive system-level electrical architecture, defining electrical needs, interface points, and integration strategies across subsystems
Design and deliver PCBAs, wiring harnesses, and complete system schematics from concept to production
Perform schematic capture, layout, and documentation using Altium Designer.
Develop and document wiring harness designs using Rapid Harness, ensuring signal integrity, topology control, and manufacturability
Work with high-speed interfaces (>1 Gbps) and communication protocols, including I2C, I3C, I2S, GMSL, MIPI-CSI2, Ethernet, CAN, SPI, SSI, and various analog layers
Use structured risk management tools such as NUDD and FMEA to identify and mitigate design risks early
Define and execute Acceptance Test Plans (ATPs) for electrical validation, qualification, and production release
Apply best practices for battery-powered EV architectures, including EMC/EMI compliance and regulatory testing
Manage and release documentation through Arena PLM, ensuring configuration control and traceability
Translate system requirements into actionable design deliverables and manage schedule commitments
Diagnose and resolve complex, cross-disciplinary issues involving electrical, mechanical, and communication subsystems
Ensure designs meet Functional Safety considerations aligned with standards such as ISO-26262 or IEC-60335
Qualifications
5–8 years of electrical engineering experience in production hardware development
Strong generalist background across multiple areas of electrical engineering (PCB, harness, system integration)
Proven expertise with PCB design, including schematic capture, layout, and DFM best practices
Experience with wiring harness design, particularly using Rapid Harness or similar tools
Familiarity with Arena PLM or equivalent systems for configuration and release management
Working knowledge of functional safety design principles and relevant standards (ISO-26262, IEC-60335)
Experience working with high-speed digital interfaces and multiple communication protocols
Familiarity with EMC/EMI compliance testing and design considerations.
Strong communication and documentation skills
Ability to own designs end-to-end—from architecture through production release
Benefits & Perks
Health benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision, HSA and FSA (Health & Dependent Daycare), Employee Assistance Program, 1:1 Health Concierge)
Life, Short-term and long-term disability insurance (Cyngn funds 100% of premiums)

Commuter Benefits
Flexible vacation policy
Sabbatical leave opportunity after 5 years with the company
