Description

ABOUT THE ROLE The Student Success Coordinator is responsible for supporting the academic achievement, retention, and successful graduation of Fort McKay First Nation students in Grades 8–12 attending schools in Fort McMurray and the FMFN E-Learning program. This role serves as a key liaison and advocate between FMFN Education, students, families, and external school divisions. The Coordinator provides individualized academic, social-emotional, and cultural support to ensure students are set up for success and connected to appropriate resources and services. The position plays a critical role in strengthening student transitions, monitoring progress, and ensuring timely interventions to support student success and well-being. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Student Support & Advocacy Provide one-on-one support to monitor student academic progress, attendance, and well-being Advocate for students within Fort McMurray schools to ensure appropriate supports and accommodations are in place Support students in navigating academic challenges, credit completion, and graduation pathways Facilitate access to tutoring, learning supports, and external services Act as primary point of contact for parents/guardians regarding student progress Family Engagement Work closely with the Parent Liaison to support student engagement and family connection in community Build strong, supportive relationships with families to encourage engagement and shared accountability Conduct home visits and generate creative, measurable ways to support student engagement and attendance Provide regular communication on student progress, attendance, and available supports School & Partner Collaboration Liaise with principals, teachers, Indigenous liaisons, counsellors, and support staff Attend IPP/IEP meetings and case conferences to advocate for students Coordinate supports between schools, FMFN Education, and external providers Monitoring & Intervention Track student attendance, achievement, and engagement data Identify at-risk students and implement targeted intervention plans Support key transitions (Grade 7–8, 9–10, and post-secondary/employment pathways) Program Coordination & Student Success Initiatives Support development and delivery of student success programming Coordinate and oversee tutoring supports Promote culturally responsive and inclusive programming aligned with FMFN values Reporting & Accountability Maintain accurate student records and case notes Prepare reports on student progress, attendance, and outcomes Contribute to program evaluation and continuous improvement KEY REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, or related field (preferred) 3–5 years’ experience working with youth in academic, school, or community settings Experience supporting Indigenous students strongly preferred Knowledge of First Nations communities, culture, and education systems is an asset Experience working with IPPs/IEPs and student support services Clean Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector required Valid class 5 Driver’s License & Clean Driver’s Abstract required Successful candidate will be required to live in (or relocate to) Fort McMurray, Alberta WHY APPLY?
