POSITION DESCRIPTION
Environmental Specialist – Land Revitalization Program
Department: Environmental
Location: Juneau, AK
Exemption Status: Non-Exempt
Pay Grade(s): 9
Purpose: The Environmental Specialist will support and coordinate environmental projects primarily within the Land Revitalization Program, including solid waste management, greenhouse gas reduction initiatives, and the Tribal Response Program. This role involves assisting with grants and projects that advance the establishment of a regional recycling hub, expand composting initiatives across Southeast Alaska, and contribute to the assessment, cleanup, and inventory of brownfield sites. The position will also provide technical and administrative support for other environmental initiatives within tribal villages and the Environmental Division.
Essential Functions. An individual in this role must be able to perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodation:
Project Support for Land Revitalization Program: Assist with the implementation and coordination of projects related to solid waste management, composting, and brownfield remediation under the Land Revitalization Program. Grant and Project Assistance: Provide administrative and technical support to ensure successful execution of Environmental Division projects, including budget tracking, scheduling, and reporting in alignment with funding agency requirements. Program and Budget Monitoring: Support the monitoring of program budgets and funding compliance, assisting with the preparation of financial reports and updates for various funding sources. Outreach and Education Support: Contribute to public outreach and educational initiatives, promoting tribal and community engagement with environmental programs and raising awareness of key issues. Interagency Coordination: Collaborate with local, regional, state, and national partners to support the development and implementation of tribal environmental services and guidelines. Stakeholder Communication: Maintain effective communication with tribal communities and stakeholders, providing input to support program planning and development. Grant Writing Assistance: Support the research, development, and preparation of grant applications to secure funding for environmental projects. Other Duties as Assigned: Perform additional tasks as needed to support the Environmental Division’s objectives and priorities.
