Description
Overview
The GEC Social Worker is a fully licensed independent clinical social worker (LICSW) and does not require any supervision to perform clinical duties. The GEC Social Worker will be a member of the Special Education Team and have a caseload of students across the LEA (who attend one of the two GEC sites) with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or 504 Plan and require social worker services. Additionally, the GEC Social Worker will led and implement student wellness activities across the LEA, professional development sessions to the GEC staff, and support on many key social emotional initiatives at the LEA. The GEC Social Worker is involved in the following six (6) key areas: (1) preventive work with students, staff, and families that promotes positive school climate and social/emotional well-being; (2) program development to meet the unique needs of the school; (3) program planning that contributes to the development of school-wide policies; (4) advocacy that supports students and families; (5) direct services to students and families; and (6) and special education.

Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provides the following direct services for the GEC community: individual student counseling, group counseling, psychoeducation, crisis intervention, and parent education for students on identified caseload and other students as identified.
2. Member of the GEC crisis team to support student crisis incidents at both GEC sites and plans and implements the plans created for students.
3. Member of the GEC Special Education team and serves as a member of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT), provides related services as prescribed to students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and 504 plans, including social skills, life skills, and transitional skills that can be transferred from school to community, and conducts social work evaluations and other related assessments for initial evaluations and re-evaluations.
4. Manages an internal referral process to support student social worker needs and collaborates with key GEC team members to provide appropriate follow-up around service needs and inquiries.
5. Completes thorough student progress reports and has strong systems in place to ensure all records are up to date, completed, and accurate.6. Collects and documents student data to monitor social/emotional progress and ensures all session notes are documented with accuracy and detail in the correct systems.
7. Provides consultation and partnership to school staff, SPED vendors, and parents to facilitate student educational, social, and emotional growth.
8. Works collaboratively with the Student Support Team (SST) to develop plans for students at risk of academic and/or behavioral difficulty.
9. Collaborates with the school Leadership Team to implement effective policies that address, but are not limited to school safety, school attendance, substance abuse, and neglect.
10. Strong communicator with attention to follow up and detail to all stakeholders involved with students including external agencies, families, and GEC staff members.
11. Facilitates professional development sessions for GEC team members on topics of focus aligned to interventions, social emotional learning, and other identified topics.
12. Participates in external student meetings and/or court hearings as a GEC representative.
13. Makes home visits, as necessary and directed by the Manager of Special Education, that encourage home/school communication.
14. Makes appropriate referrals for community resources and documents all referrals and builds strong community partner resources for students.
15. Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
1. Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW).
2. District of Columbia Government, Department of Health Professional License, which must be renewed every two (2) years by obtaining the required continuing education units: Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW).
3. At least three (3) years of work experience as a Social Worker in an urban school/setting with a track record of high student achievement.
4. Ability to conduct clinical interviews and write comprehensive social history evaluations.
5. Ability to administer, interpret, and analyze related assessment instruments.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Five (5) or more years of work experience as a Social Worker in an urban school/setting with a track record of high student achievement.
2. Experience leading and facilitating professional development session to school staff.
3. Bilingual or multilingual
