      "content": "\n<li>Setting up</li>\n<li>Helping patients feel comfortable before, during, and after dental treatment</li>\n<li>Asking about or verifying, when necessary, a patient’s medical history and taking blood pressure and pulse</li>\n<li>Taking and developing dental radiographs (x-rays)</li>\n<li>Chairside assisting</li>\n<li>Providing patients with instructions for oral care following dental treatment procedures</li>\n<li>Teaching patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health (like tooth brushing, flossing, and nutritional counseling</li>\n<li>Serving as infection control officer, developing infection control protocol, preparing and sterilizing instruments and equipment, and the patient’s area</li>\n<li>Keeping the operating rooms stocked and sterile</li>\n<li>Maintaining dental equipment</li>\n<li>Taking impressions of patients’ teeth for study casts (models of teeth).</li>\n<li>May apply non-aerosol and non-caustic topical agents</li>\n<li>May remove post-extraction and periodontal dressings</li>\n<li>May place and remove elastic orthodontic separators</li>\n<li>May hold anterior matrices</li>\n<li>May remove sutures</li>\n<li>May apply topical fluoride after scaling and polishing by the Dentist, Hygienist, or Dental Supervisor, RDA-Clinic Coordinator</li>\n<li>May place and remove rubber dams</li>\n<li>Other dental or chairside duties assigned by the supervisor</li>\n\n<div>Under general supervision, a Registered Dental Assistant may perform:</div>\n\n<li>Mouth mirror inspecting the oral cavity to include charting of obvious lesions, existing restorations, and missing teeth</li>\n<li>Placement and removal of temporary sedative dressings</li>\n<li>Under direct supervision, a Registered Dental Assistant may perform the following procedures:</li>\n<li>Obtain endodontic cultures</li>\n<li>Dry canals previously opened by the Supervising Dentist, with absorbent points</li>\n<li>Test pulp vitality</li>\n<li>Place bases and liners on sound dentin</li>\n<li>Remove excess cement from the gingival surfaces of teeth with a hand instrument or fluoride</li>\n<li>Size stainless steel crowns, temporary crowns, and bands</li>\n<li>Temporary cementations and removal of orthodontic bands</li>\n<li>Placements of orthodontic separators</li>\n<li>Placements and litigations of arch wires</li>\n<li>Placement of post-extractions and periodontal dressings</li>\n<li>Coronal polishing is certified&nbsp;</li>\n<li>Removal of excess cements from coronal surfaces of teeth by means of an ultrasonic scaler if certified</li>\n<li>Observe professional and ethical standards of the job.</li>\n<li>Follow clinic protocols.</li>\n<li>Comply with OSHA regulations.&nbsp;</li>\n<li>Comply with AHS health and safety rules and procedures.</li>\n<li>Comply with Human Resources requirements such as attending periodic in-service training, meeting annual health exam requirements, submitting proof of CME and license renewals, etc.</li>\n<li>Assist in providing orientation to new employees, including newly-employed front desk assistants, Dental Assistants, Registered Dental Assistants, Dental Hygienists, Dentists, etc.</li>\n<li>Be willing to assist in other tasks as requested when appropriate and time allows.</li>\n<li>Attend regular department meetings and organization-wide staff meetings.</li>\n<li>Promote teamwork and a positive work environment in the department.</li>\n<li>Participates in agency-wide quality improvement program processes and performance improvement teams to ensure excellence in the quality of services provided across the agency.</li>\n"
