Description

Overview THE ROLE At Great Dane, we rely on makers and we’re calling on them to join our expanding team, the time has never been better to Embrace Your Great and work in an environment with the highest safety standards in the industry. The Position: The Materials Supervisor’s main function is to manage the materials team in support of trailer and Aftermarket production from the receipt and storage of materials to the timely replenishment and delivery of material to the production line. Additionally, the Materials Supervisor will direct all shipments of parts, assemblies and dunnage to Aftermarket, sister plants and suppliers. The Materials Supervisor may also coordinate spotter truck activities in support of production and materials activities. Responsibilities WHAT YOU’LL DO Ensure compliance with plant-wide safety protocols and conduct basic safety training for team members. Provide training to team following all OSHA rules and GD policies in the use of material handling equipment – forklifts, mobilized carts, cranes, stacker cranes, tuggers, pallet jacks, dock locks, etc. Ensures all HR related processes and policies are followed by material handling team. Coordinate routine shipping, receiving, and warehouse activities under direct guidance from the Supply Chain Manager. Responsible for developing, training and maintaining proper material handling processes. Supervise a team consisting of material handlers and direct support personnel for line production. Work with Operations to make sure NCM, PDR and scrap processes are being followed by shop floor personnel. Support plant SC Lean & plant BIQ processes specifically focusing on items affected by material handling team. Work with operations and SC to address SC MPOU defects. Assist with housekeeping and organization of storage areas, implementing and maintaining 5S Standards. Work with maintenance to ensure all material handling equipment is properly maintained and available for production support needs. Maintain accurate inventory within assigned work areas. Support annual year-end physical inventory ensuring all inventory has been properly identified, counted, and recorded. Lead the material recycling process at the plant to ensure material is segregated by alloy. Perform weekly EASE audits on assigned areas and staff. Assist with coordinating the corporate audits and managing the assigned audit tasks. Communicate and update the supply chain communication board. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Your skills and abilities (required qualifications) Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Business, or other Manufacturing discipline, preferred Experience: 1-3 years of progressive levels of responsibility within Supply Chain and/or Manufacturing. 1-3 years of experience in a people-leadership role. Working knowledge of material flow, logistics, warehousing, receiving and shipping systems and practices preferred. Experience working in a heavy industrial environment using Lean Manufacturing concepts in daily continuous. improvement activities preferred. Experienced in multi-plant ERP environment required. JDE experience preferred. Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication and people skills. Strong experience utilizing computers and working with Microsoft products, including intermediate – advanced Excel skills Strong experience working collaboratively and cross-functionally in on-site and off-site teams. Organizational, attention to detail and record keeping skills. Problem solving skills. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Physical demands: 20% of time is office - 80% in a manufacturing and warehouse environment. Work environment: Exposed to standard shop noise. Must wear plant defined PPE when in shop. Must be aware of surroundings due to crane/hoist truck & forklift movements inside and out of the plant. A fast-paced environment.
