Description
There is an immediate opening for a Laboratory Technician at our Solstice Advance Materials Products site in Geismar, LA. Fluorine Products represents a $900 million segment of the Specialty Materials business unit and is a leader the refrigerants industry, manufacturing and supplying customers with economical chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) replacements and non-ozone depleting hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerants for automotive, home, commercial and transportation uses. Geismer, LA manufacturing facility, has approximately 400 employees.
Position Responsibilities:
Performs chemical tests and analysis on process and finished product samples following established laboratory methods and procedures.
Analyzes process, cooling tower, and boiler feed water for proper chemical treatment.
Samples and analyzes process and product samples as required.
Performs quality assurance and quality control testing and analyses as required to ensure the accuracy and reliability of analytical results.
Prepares reagents, solutions, and standards as required.
Performs calibration and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation as necessary to assure proper performance.
Monitors and maintains laboratory supply and chemical inventory to assure effective laboratory operation.
Assists in the maintenance of quality management system in the Laboratory.
Provides technical support and performs special assignments to support the Lab, Production, Engineering, and other Laboratory Customers.
Assembles laboratory reports; maintains notes on progress of analytical testing; reports analytical observations and findings without deviation; and informs laboratory customers of variances from standards immediately.
Provides First Aid on off-hours and as needed. Meets all requirements of a Medical First Responder.
Provides atmospheric and vessel entry testing for production facilities as needed.
Observes plant and laboratory safety rules and regulations at all times.
Assists in training of laboratory personnel and provides work direction as required.
Assists in laboratory continuous improvement efforts (i.e., process improvement, variation reduction, cycle time reduction, cost reduction).
Continually works to exceed customer expectations through the effective production and delivery of accurate, precise and reliable results.
Hazardous waste sampling, hazardous waste packaging/loading duties, container marking and labeling, hazardous waste container handling and management, respond to chemical spills and releases, and conduct and document routine inspections
Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as required.

Follow quality control procedures and standards to ensure compliance
Identify and report any nonconforming products or deviations from quality standards
Maintain accurate records of inspections and test results
Collaborate with crossfunctional teams to resolve quality issues and implement corrective actions
Qualifications
Basic Candidate Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED is required. A minimum of twelve (12) hours college chemistry and one year laboratory experience, preferably in a chemical plant environment OR three plus years laboratory experience, preferably in a chemical plant environment is required. Must have the ability and desire to work 12-hour rotating shifts. Ability to lift 25 pounds is required. US work authorization. Additional Candidate Qualifications:
A technical degree is preferred. ISO9001 experience and a knowledge of statistical (SPC/SQC) techniques is preferred. Attend Fundamentals of Six Sigma during first 6 to 18 months in the role. Must be able to work with little supervision. Must be able to learn and perform Fluorocarbons analytical procedures. Must be able to work closely and successfully with other departments to meet their needs. Implement quality assurance and training as appropriate to maintain and improve analytical functions. Provide necessary technical support and analytical assistance as needed. Ability to train and motivate others. Strong organizational & analytic skills. Knowledge of Statistical Techniques. Effective verbal/written communication skills. Compensation:
The annual hourly pay for this position is $33.00 per hour. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline.
