The incumbent also serves as the appointed <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Assistant Town Health Officer</span> pursuant to <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">NH RSA: 128</span>, supporting the Town’s public health and safety responsibilities.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Essential Duties and Responsibilities</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Administer the Town’s annual rental housing inspection program and certification of rental housing permits</li>\n<li>Conduct rental housing inspections, re-inspections, and investigations in coordination with the Town Building Inspector and as assigned</li>\n<li>Monitor property exteriors to ensure compliance with the solid waste ordinance and property maintenance standards</li>\n<li>Collaborate closely with rental property owners and tenants to promote education regarding tenant rights and responsibilities, landlord obligations, and rental housing safety</li>\n<li>Enforce applicable life safety, rental housing, and public health codes and standards</li>\n<li>Serve as Assistant Town Health Officer pursuant to NH RSA: 128 upon recommendation of the Selectboard and appointment by the NH Commissioner of Health and Human Services</li>\n<li>Prepare and maintain accurate inspection reports, records, and documentation</li>\n<li>Perform related duties as assigned</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Knowledge of life safety, rental housing, and public health codes and standards</li>\n<li>Knowledge of fire prevention and safety principles</li>\n<li>Knowledge of state and local public health laws, rules, and ordinances</li>\n<li>Skill in conducting inspections and investigations</li>\n<li>Skill in researching, analyzing, interpreting, and applying codes and ordinances</li>\n<li>Skill in preparing and maintaining accurate reports, records, and files</li>\n<li>Skill in reading and interpreting maps, blueprints, plans, specifications, and construction documents</li>\n<li>Ability to establish and maintain effective, collaborative working relationships with coworkers, Town staff, and external partners, including the Hanover Fire Department</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Physical Demands and Work Environment</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work involves indoor office duties and on-site field inspections</li>\n<li>Requires standing, walking, bending, stooping, and occasional lifting</li>\n<li>Travel throughout the community to conduct inspections and investigations</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Minimum Qualifications</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bachelor’s degree and specialized training related to the field, plus one to three years of experience in a similar role, <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">or</span> an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform all major duties</li>\n<li>Possession of, or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire, <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">NFPA or ICC Inspector Certification</span></li>\n<li>Possession of, or ability to readily obtain, a valid New Hampshire driver’s license</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Hours of Work: </span></p>\n<p>35 hours a week/Exempt Position</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>If you are passionate about housing safety, public health, and community service, <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">we encourage you to apply today</span>.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><em>The Town of Hanover is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
