Description
About the Role:
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) plays a vital role in delivering compassionate and high-quality care to patients within healthcare and skilled nursing settings. This position focuses on supporting nursing staff by providing essential patient care, including assisting with daily living activities, monitoring patient health, and ensuring comfort and safety. The CNA serves as a critical link between patients and the healthcare team, observing and reporting changes in patient conditions to facilitate timely interventions. Through direct patient interaction, the CNA helps promote dignity, respect, and emotional well-being for individuals under their care.
Minimum Qualifications:
Current and valid South Carolina CNA certification as required under SC state regulations for skilled nursing facilities. High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a state-approved nursing assistant training program. Basic understanding of medical terminology and patient care procedures. Ability to pass a background check and meet health screening requirements as required under federal and state regulations for skilled nursing facilities. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds. Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience working as a CNA in a healthcare or long-term care setting. CPR and First Aid certification. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems. Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Additional training or coursework in geriatric care. Responsibilities:
Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, eating, and mobility. Monitor and record vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure. Observe patients for any changes in physical or emotional condition and promptly report findings to nursing staff. Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for patients by following infection control protocols and safety guidelines. Support nursing staff with routine clinical tasks and documentation to ensure continuity of care. Skills:
The CNA utilizes strong interpersonal and communication skills daily to build trust and rapport with patients, ensuring their comfort and emotional support. Attention to detail and observational skills are critical for accurately monitoring patient conditions and reporting changes to nursing staff. Physical stamina and dexterity are essential for assisting patients with mobility and personal care tasks safely. Time management and organizational skills help the CNA efficiently balance multiple patient needs and documentation responsibilities. Familiarity with healthcare protocols and technology, such as EHR systems, enhances the CNA's ability to contribute to coordinated and effective patient care.
