Description
The University of Maine at Fort Kent is seeking to hire a Facilities Maintenance Worker CL2.
This position will perform defined tasks related to cleaning assigned areas, performing basic grounds keeping responsibilities, custodial services, and/or minor and basic maintenance responsibilities. This is an essential position with the expectation that incumbents report to work on declared administrative leaves and administrative holidays, including campus closure due to the inclement weather upon request by the supervisor. The starting pay is $18.42. Additional benefits include medical, dental, vision, and tuition waiver programs for employees and dependents.
Responsibilities:
Maintains facilities and grounds which may include mowing; weed removal; snow removal; trimming trees; picking-up litter; sweeping; mopping; making minor building repairs; moving furniture and equipment; and/or performing related duties.
Operates and maintains a variety of vehicles, equipment and tools; completes routine maintenance on equipment, tools, and vehicles. May work with materials and chemicals associated with cleaning.
Reports maintenance issues and equipment failures as appropriate.
Maintains inventory levels within assigned area of responsibility.
Cleaning assigned rooms and/or buildings by following defined instructions.
Performing facility set-ups and take downs as directed.
Monitoring materials and supplies of assigned cart or area, notifying lead worker and supervisor as needed.
Utilizing equipment to perform seasonal or regular maintenance.
Adhering to safety procedures, including reporting mechanical and/or safety issues.
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Providing work guidance to less experienced employees, such as answering procedural and process
related questions.
Monitoring a central supply area for an assigned building and notifying supervisor of any stocking or
supply issues.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
Sufficient experience, including one year of custodial or grounds related work experience
Valid Maine driver's license
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
Safety principles
Equipment use and troubleshooting
Monitoring and maintaining inventory
Providing exemplary customer service
Ability to understand Safety Data Sheets
Ability to pass required safety training
Exemplary customer service skills
Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
Ability to work independently, follow verbal and written instructions, and safety procedures
Capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects

Excellent alpine and cross-country skiing are additional attractions of the community. Of special note is the five-minute walk from the UMFK campus to the beautiful Fish River which flows into the St. John River that serves as the international boundary between Maine and New Brunswick, Canada.
