Inspire Pathways Special Education Teacher (8:1:1 Program)
The Special Education Teacher in the 8:1:1 program provides highly specialized instruction to students with significant management needs who are eligible for the New York State Alternate Assessment (NYSAA). The teacher designs and delivers individualized, standards-based instruction aligned with the Unique Learning System (ULS) curriculum, focusing on functional academics, life skills, and post-secondary readiness.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Curriculum
Develop and deliver specially designed instruction (SDI ) individualized to each student’s IEP goals and learning profile Implement and adapt the Unique Learning System (ULS ) curriculum to support diverse learning needs Provide instruction in: Functional academics (literacy, numeracy, communication) Daily living skills (hygiene, dressing, meal preparation, money management) Social-emotional development (self-regulation, communication, conflict resolution) Community awareness and safety Vocational readiness skills Student Support & Classroom Management
Create a structured, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment that addresses complex behavioral and management needs Utilize positive behavior supports and interventions Collaborate closely with paraprofessionals to ensure effective student support and supervision Differentiate instruction to accommodate a wide range of abilities and communication needs Assessment & Progress Monitoring
Develop and implement IEP goals and objectives aligned with NYSAA standards Collect and analyze data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly Prepare students for participation in the New York State Alternate Assessment (NYSAA) Maintain accurate documentation and progress reports Vocational & Community-Based Instruction
Coordinate and supervise job site experiences to support vocational skill development Integrate real-world learning opportunities and community-based instruction Teach workplace readiness skills, including task completion, following directions, and appropriate behaviors Collaboration & Communication
Work collaboratively with related service providers, support staff, and families Participate in Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings and program planning Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and needs Partner with administration regarding placement and program implementation Program Responsibilities
Support implementation of both program components: Classroom Instruction: Deliver individualized academic, behavioral, and life skills instruction Job Site Experiences: Facilitate structured, supervised work-based learning Qualifications:
