This field-based role is responsible for monitoring contractor work, verifying compliance with contract documents, applicable codes, safety requirements, and quality standards, while documenting progress and supporting the Resident Engineer with field coordination.</p>\n<h2>Responsibilities</h2>\n<p>Inspection, Quality & Compliance</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Inspect and verify construction work for compliance with plans, specifications, CTDOT standards, applicable codes, environmental, quality and safety standards.</li>\n <li>Observe construction activities across one or more of the following:</li>\n <ul>\n  <li>Highway/bridge work (earthwork, drainage, concrete, steel, utilities, MPT)</li>\n  <li>Buildings/facilities (architectural, structural, MEP, renovations)</li>\n  <li>Rail/transit projects (trackwork, platforms, facilities, utilities, yards)</li>\n </ul>\n <li>Identify nonconforming work and coordinate corrective actions.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>Documentation & Contract Support</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Prepare daily inspection reports, photographs, and progress documentation.</li>\n <li>Measure, calculate, and verify quantities for materials installed, delivered, or stored.</li>\n <li>Witness and document required materials testing.</li>\n <li>Review and process project documentation, including submittals and RFIs.</li>\n <li>Assist with meeting minutes, issue tracking, and field documentation.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>Coordination & Safety</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Coordinate with the Resident Engineer, project staff, contractors, CTDOT representatives, rail owners, municipalities, and agencies.</li>\n <li>Participate in coordination meetings and follow up on action items.</li>\n <li>Monitor jobsite safety, including OSHA, CTDOT, MPT, and promote compliance with PPE and safety protocols.</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Experience & Skills</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Field inspection experience on transportation, buildings, rail, or civil construction projects.</li>\n <li>Ability to interpret plans, specifications, codes, and contract documents.</li>\n <li>Familiarity with CTDOT Form 819, Construction Manual, and digital documentation systems (AASHTOWare, COMPASS, ProjectWise, SharePoint).</li>\n <li>Ability to perform accurate field measurements and quantity calculations.</li>\n <li>Strong written and verbal communication skills.</li>\n <li>Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p>\n<p>Minimum Qualifications:</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering Technology, or related field</li>\n</ul>\n<p>OR</p>\n<ul>\n <li>High School Diploma and a NICET Level I</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong> </strong></p>\n<p>Preferred requirements:</p>\n<ul>\n <li>One or more of the following certifications (or ability to obtain):</li>\n <ul>\n  <li>NICET Level II or higher</li>\n  <li>ACI, NETTCP, ATSSA</li>\n  <li>OSHA 10- or 30-Hour</li>\n  <li>Relevant trade license (project dependent)</li>\n </ul>\n <li>1-2 Years of experience on CT DOT Projects</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Physical & Working Conditions</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Ability to work in active construction environments, including uneven terrain, heights, excavations, and varied weather.</li>\n <li>Willingness to work nights, weekends, or off-hours for traffic shifts, building shutdowns, or rail outages.</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<h2>Benefits</h2>\n<p>M&J is a leader in providing quality engineering consulting services to a diverse and exciting client base.
