Description
Description
Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School invites applications for a teacher in the History Department for the 2026-2027 academic year, teaching 4 sections (80%). Located in Washington, DC, and founded in 1799, Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School educates young women in grades 9 – 12 in a faith-centered community focused on educational excellence and rooted in the Roman Catholic faith and Salesian tradition.
The ideal candidate is energetic and eager to educate and guide young women at this critical time in their lives; able to challenge talented young women to cultivate a strong point of view and to clearly articulate and defend it; and ready to implement teaching methods that serve diverse learning styles.
As educators in the Visitation tradition, our teachers form lives as well as impart knowledge. As a school, we seek to create challenging and joyful classrooms that cultivate a lifelong love of learning. We’re seeking a candidate who can nurture young women's sense of wonder; awaken students' appreciation for literature's expression of the human experience; and build their confidence in their abilities. The ideal candidate will help students learn how to read with both a critical eye and compassionate heart and how to communicate effectively in both speech and writing. To learn more about what it means to be a Visitation educator, we encourage you to read Educating the Heart and Mind , a brief pamphlet that outlines the six goals of a Visitation education.
Qualifications
Successful candidates should have a strong academic background in ancient civilizations, modern world history, human geography, and US history with previous teaching experience in the subject at the secondary level, along with energy, enthusiasm, and a desire to communicate and work with young women. Advanced Placement (AP) experience is preferred but not required. In addition to teaching, faculty also attend school-wide events and regular departmental and faculty meetings. A bachelor’s degree in a related field is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants without regard to their age, color, disability status, national or ethnic origin, race, religion, sex, veteran status, or any other class protected by state or federal law. As a Catholic school, Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School reserves the right to use religion as a hiring criterion for selected positions, as permitted by law. Employment offers are contingent on the satisfactory outcome of a standard background screening.
Salary is equal to the school faculty pay schedule based on degrees and years of teaching experience . The range is $50,000 – $90,000+.
