Community Behavioral Health Therapist
(LMHC, LMSW, LCSW)
Position Overview The Community Behavioral Health Therapist provides mobile, person-centered, and recovery-oriented behavioral health services to adults enrolled in CORE Services.
Services are delivered primarily in community-based settings and focus on addressing behavioral health barriers that impact daily living, housing, employment, education, relationships, and overall community integration.
This position reports to the Assistant Director of Social Programs and is eligible for direct client contact hours towards LCSW. Clinical supervision is available.
Terms of Employment/Benefits
Pay Rate: $80,500 – $82,500 (based on licensure and experience)
Employment Status: Exempt
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9 AM – 5 PM
Benefits: Paid holidays, vacation, personal, wellness, and sick leave according to MHA policy. Training and educational opportunities available.
Location
The position is based out of an office in New Windsor, with primary responsibilities involving travel throughout Orange County with most clients located in Newburgh and Middletown. Agency vehicles and mileage reimbursement are available.
Key Responsibilities 1. Person-Centered Assessment & Service Planning
Conduct comprehensive, person-centered assessments to identify strengths, needs, barriers, and recovery goals Collaboratively develop and implement Individual Service Plans (ISPs) that reflect the individual’s voice and preferences Regularly review and update ISPs based on progress and changing needs Utilize a strengths-based, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented approach in all planning 2. Clinical Counseling & Psychotherapy
Provide individual psychotherapy and therapeutic interventions to support symptom management and personal growth Deliver evidence-based and best practice interventions to improve functioning and reduce symptom interference Support individuals in developing coping skills, emotional regulation, and resilience 3. Integrated Treatment for Co-Occurring Disorders
Provide integrated treatment for individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders Utilize approaches such as motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral strategies, and harm reduction techniques Collaborate with external providers to ensure coordinated and holistic care 4. Rehabilitation Counseling & Skill Development
Deliver intensive rehabilitation counseling to support individuals in achieving meaningful life roles Assist with development of independent living skills, community integration, and goal attainment Support individuals in accessing and engaging with community resources and supports 5. Crisis Prevention & Intervention
Identify early warning signs of crisis and support individuals in developing crisis prevention plans Provide interventions to reduce risk and promote stability in the community Collaborate with collaterals and providers to ensure safety and continuity of care 6. Care Coordination & Collaboration
Communicate and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including healthcare providers, care managers, and community partners Engage family members and natural supports as appropriate and with consent Ensure services are integrated and aligned with the individual’s overall care plan 7. Documentation & Compliance
Complete timely and accurate documentation, including assessments, ISPs, progress notes, and discharge summaries Ensure all documentation meets regulatory and billing requirements Participate in utilization review, quality assurance, and compliance activities 8. Community-Based Service Delivery
Provide services in the community, including homes, workplaces, and other natural environments Deliver flexible, mobile services tailored to individual needs and preferences Support engagement for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional clinic-based services Other Duties Participate in MHA’s committees as needed. Master’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or related field Current New York State licensure (LMHC, LMSW, or LCSW) Experience providing clinical services to individuals with serious mental illness and/or substance use disorders Knowledge of recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, and harm reduction approaches Preferred
Experience with community-based or mobile service delivery Experience working with co-occurring disorders Strong skills in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning Core Competencies Person-centered and recovery-oriented practice Strong clinical judgment and problem-solving skills Ability to work independently in community settings Effective collaboration and communication Cultural humility and responsiveness
