Take the Lead on Marine Research in Seychelles
Location: Cap Ternay, Seychelles | Start Date: Mid April - End of April | Duration: 1 year+

At GVI Cap Ternay, you’ll be part of one of the world’s most stunning marine environments, helping guide research projects, support volunteers, and shape the scientific integrity of everything we do.
✨ WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS
As our Science Program Coordinator , you’ll play a central role in training participants, managing data, and supporting marine conservation research across the Seychelles. You’ll deliver workshops, lead dives, guide surveys, and support field ops across a range of projects.
This is a role for someone who thrives in the field, who understands the balance between rigorous science, engaging training, and real-life field challenges.
🎯 WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
Delivering scientific training and workshops to volunteers and staff
Managing survey logistics and ensuring safe, high-quality fieldwork
Assisting in dive operations and participant training (with the Dive Coordinator)
Leading data entry, storage, backup and reporting
Supporting the development of training materials and science resources
Coordinating survey schedules and field trips
Assisting the Science Coordinator in delivering research outputs
Mentoring volunteers and interns during field and office work
Helping maintain equipment and uphold health and safety standards
Participating in fieldwork 4–5 days a week (including some weekends)
🚀 WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM
BSc or MSc in biological sciences, marine biology, or a related field
PADI Dive Master Certification
Experience in scientific research, training, or marine conservation
Confidence in delivering workshops and training sessions
Excellent organisational and time management skills
Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
Ability to live and work in remote, rustic environments
Physical ability to lift tanks, hike, and operate in tough field conditions
Passion for conservation, research, and working with people
Bonus if you also have:
Emergency First Response or First Aid certification
Previous GVI experience
Boat handling licence
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and statistical tools

Set in a lush jungle and just moments from the ocean, Cap Ternay is one of GVI’s most immersive, remote bases. The work is physically demanding, but the environment is unforgettable.
🏡 Base Life & Facilities
Basic but comfortable rooms (private for staff)
Shared kitchen, balcony and communal spaces
Wi-Fi on base (slow but reliable enough for calls & Netflix)
Hot showers (note: only for showers - not from the taps)
🍽️ Food & Meals
Breakfast: eggs, toast, porridge, cereal
Lunch: noodles, rice, samosas, fries
Dinner: curries, pastas, salads, etc...
We cater for most dietary needs
We cook for ourselves (staff and volunteers take turns)
🚗 Transport & Access
Base car available for shopping/fuel runs and shared personal use
Bus station: 20–30 minute walk (affordable but not always frequent)
Local taxis are expensive and rarely used unless in groups
🧗 Fitness & Field Conditions
You’ll need the strength to carry dive tanks and hike on uneven terrain
Expect long days, heat, humidity, and a high volume of fieldwork
The pace is intense but rewarding - you’ll learn, grow, and laugh a lot
📦 What to Pack
Snorkel/dive gear, good hiking shoes, reef-safe sunscreen, headtorch, toiletries, casual jungle-appropriate clothes, extra cables, sentimental items, and a strong sense of humour.
