Description
Vascular Ultrasound Technician - SouthPark Cardiology
Job Summary: This position is responsible for using diagnostic medical equipment to diagnose various medical conditions. Sonography, or ultrasonography, is the use of sound waves to generate an image for assessment and diagnosis.
(This is a full-time position supporting the Cardiology team at SouthPark, Monday to Friday 8 am to 5 pm. There is an option for 4-10 hour days or 5-8 hour days)
Primary Job Responsibilities/Tasks may include, but not limited to: Reviews patient’s medical history and physician’s instructions. Prepares equipment for procedure. Selects appropriate equipment settings. Obtains prior authorizations on scans as needed. Administers IV contrast agents. Explains procedure to patient and records any medical history that may be relevant to the condition being viewed. Directs the patient to move into positions that will provide the best view. Spreads gel on the skin to aid the transmission of sound waves. Operates special equipment to direct nonionizing, high-frequency sound waves into areas of the patient’s body. The equipment collects reflected echoes and forms an image that may be videotaped, transmitted, or photographed for interpretation and diagnosis by a physician. Views the screen during the scan, looking for visual cues that contrast healthy areas with unhealthy ones. Selects images to show to the physician for diagnostic purposes. Takes measurements, calculates values, and analyzes the results in preliminary reports for the physicians. Keeps patient records and adjusts/maintains equipment. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Complies with safety, infection control, and quality improvement policies/procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements: Education and Certifications High school diploma. Associate or bachelor’s degree in sonography from accredited school. Certification of competency and registration preferred Must have either the Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) certification granted by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS) granted by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS certification Completion of Hepatitis B Vaccine and Flu Vaccine Form will be required. Candidate may decline vaccination through declination form or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer. Completion of TB test will be required.
Experience: Minimum one or more years of experience and/or training Physical Requirements Work consistently requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift and support weight of 35 pounds. Ability to concentrate on details. Use of computer for long periods of time.
