Description We are searching for a Manager of Public Affairs - someone who works in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will lead proactive media relations and storytelling efforts that elevate the organization’s reputation, amplify its clinical expertise and research innovation, and highlight the human impact of its mission. This role partners closely with executive leadership, clinicians, researchers, and cross-functional teams to drive strategic communications that strengthen trust, credibility, and visibility at the local, regional, and national levels. Identify thought leadership opportunities and develop execution strategies to elevate key voices. Develop key messages, talking points, and narratives for major initiatives, announcements, and milestones. Collaborate across marketing, digital, social media, government relations, philanthropy, and clinical teams to ensure consistent messaging. Develop and execute a forward-looking media relations strategy that advances organizational priorities and enhances reputation. Build and maintain strong relationships with local, regional, and national media across print, broadcast, and digital platforms. Pitch impactful stories that showcase clinical excellence, research innovation, patient experiences, and community impact. Serve as a primary media contact, managing inquiries and coordinating interviews. Prepare and coach executives, physicians, and subject-matter experts for media engagements. Track and analyze media coverage, sentiment, and performance to inform strategy. Lead the development of compelling storytelling strategies that bring the organization’s mission and impact to life. Identify and develop story ideas across platforms, including earned media, thought leadership, multimedia, and brand journalism. Translate complex and sensitive healthcare topics into clear, accurate, and emotionally resonant narratives. Crisis Communications Support the development and execution of crisis communication strategies that protect and strengthen the organization’s reputation. Draft and review crisis materials, including statements, talking points, Q&As, and media responses. Partner with legal, risk management, clinical leadership, and executives to assess risk and guide communication approaches. Provide media guidance and preparation during high-profile or sensitive situations. Lead, manage, and mentor public affairs team members, supporting their growth and development. Serve as a trusted communications advisor to senior leaders and internal stakeholders. Ensure accuracy, compliance, and sensitivity in all communications in partnership with legal and clinical teams. Uphold and reinforce brand voice, messaging, and organizational values across all storytelling. Knowledge & Skills Ability to translate complex healthcare topics into clear, engaging, and mission-driven communications. Strong strategic thinking and execution capabilities. Exceptional storytelling, writing, and message development skills. Experience collaborating across cross-functional teams. Proven ability to build relationships and identify compelling stories. Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Experience in crisis communications and reputation management. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Public Affairs, Business, or a related field required. 6 years of required experience in public affairs, media relations, journalism, or strategic communications. 2 years of formal leadership experience required Demonstrated success in leading proactive communications strategies and securing earned media coverage.
