Under minimal supervision perform a variety of chemical, metallurgical and physical tests and analysis of plant processes, products, and purchased materials to ensure conformance to established standards and/or deviations. Successful candidate for this role will be a member of the Salary Bargaining Unit-Local 240. Responsibilities What you'll do... The primary responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to: Testing includes items such as crankshaft heat treat pattern evaluation, collection, and analysis of metal working fluids from machining areas, part cleanliness testing, PTWA adhesion testing, RTV adhesion testing, etc. Evaluate test results; investigate problems and promptly report conclusions and recommendations to applicable plant personnel. Provide advice and assistance of a chemical or metallurgical nature to plant and supplier personnel relative to processes, materials and manufacturing equipment including investigation of in-plant and warranty material failures. Prepare and maintain records and distribute special or routine reports, outlining analytical results for use of plant and division staff. Determine laboratory testing methods, established test frequencies, and assist, as required the development of new testing methods, testing cycles, etc. Write and maintain laboratory testing procedures, verify, calibrate and maintain lab equipment, obtain quotes, purchase supplies, write procedures and maintain documentation and records according to established standards. Job requires performance of physical work involving lifting of parts / fixtures, securing of bolts, handles, knobs etc., bending / reaching to facilitate equipment set-up as well as handling of delicate work involving small particles, filters, and microscopic specimens. Perform miscellaneous related duties as required. Job location can vary anywhere across Windsor site (Essex Engine, Windsor Engine / Annex) from day to day as required. Qualifications You'll have... Education: University Undergraduate Degree, College Diploma or Higher Education in Chemistry, Metallurgy, Biology or Engineering. (Successful candidates will be required to provide proof of degree completion for the highest level of education attained. If the degree was obtained from a school outside of Canada, an Education Credential Assessment report showing Canadian equivalency is also required.) Experience: Prior laboratory or technical experience is an asset. Proficiency in MS Office including Outlook and Excel. Note: This is a supplemental role (non permanent) but full-time hours are offered. This posting is for an existing vacancy within our team.
