Description

We’re a team of friends bound together by a mission to preserve our planet for future generations through innovative energy solutions and modern infrastructure. Intersect develops, constructs, and operates the most ambitious power and data center infrastructure in the country by co-locating industrial demand with dedicated gas and renewable power generation. Intersect was acquired by Google in March 2026 and operates as an independent subsidiary. We are developing and constructing multiple gigawatts of energy and data center projects in the U.S., enabling more data center and generation capacity to come online faster. We’re on an aggressive growth trajectory and looking for people hungry to tackle the largest energy challenges on the planet. Location & Team Gatherings Intersect has been a fully flexible workplace since its founding in 2016.  We’ve been very intentional about the way we do things. We are not work-from-home, hybrid, or in-office - we are any and all of those options! Deepening social connections and offering shared experiences is a cornerstone of the way we work. We connect as a team at our Team Week experiences four times a year and at our recently established Hub locations - SF Bay Area, NYC Metro Area, NY; Denver, CO; Austin, TX; Calgary, AB; and Toronto, ON. We are currently looking for candidates located within 60 miles of any of the listed hubs to foster more in-person connections while maintaining our flexible remote culture. About This Role As part of Intersect’s Engineering team, you will direct the design, coordination, and technical oversight of high-voltage (HV) and medium-voltage (MV) systems across different technology and resources such as solar, wind, battery storage, datacenter, and natural gas projects. You will set the strategy for utility interconnection, optimize complex substation and transmission designs, and support projects from early development through financing, construction, and commissioning. Beyond project delivery, you will also provide ongoing technical support to Operations and compliance, ensuring assets perform reliably throughout their lifecycle. This is a highly cross-functional leadership and management role, requiring close collaboration with Development, Permitting, Construction, Finance, Operations, and external EPCs, utilities, and consultants. Team Overview The Engineering team ensures Intersect’s energy projects are technically sound, cost-optimized, and built for long-term reliability. We develop standards, review designs, and coordinate across functions to bring complex clean energy facilities online at scale. By bridging technical expertise with project execution, we help Intersect accelerate deployment while meeting the highest safety, quality, and performance standards. Joining this team means shaping the backbone of our power infrastructure and driving the interconnection of next-generation energy projects. What You’ll Do Oversee the development and review of preliminary HV transmission and substation designs, as well as MV distribution/collector designs. Lead and manage EPCs, engineers of record, and external consultants to optimize facility design and execution. Strategize and govern the maintenance and improvement of internal design tools for engineering analysis and calculation. Drive and lead recurring meetings with utilities to advance interconnection discussions from development through commissioning. Lead the support and review of interconnection applications and dynamic models to ensure accuracy and compliance. Serve as the primary Engineering Manager for Independent Engineer (IE) diligence and project financing reviews. Establish, develop, and govern technical specifications, design criteria, standards, and EPC technical exhibits. Lead the review of vendor specifications, testing protocols, and commercial agreements to ensure alignment with project requirements and cost optimization. Manage the EPC RFP process to ensure technical requirements are clearly defined and competitive. Manage and coordinate with Development, Land, Permitting, Construction, and Operations teams to ensure seamless project delivery. Direct the resolution of regulatory, permitting, and complex technical challenges with a focus on cost, schedule, and quality. Instill and champion high standards of safety, environmental stewardship, and constructability across all engineering activities. What You’ll Bring 15+ years total experience, with significant time spent in a technical leadership or management capacity. Extensive experience in clean energy project development, including interconnection, owner’s engineering/IE oversight, EPC management, and commercial negotiations. Deep experience leading HV substation/collector design (34.5-500 kV) at a developer, EoR, or EPC. Experience delivering utility-scale projects through energization. Proven ability to lead and manage cross-functional teams and external consultants/contractors. Strong understanding of HV transmission, substation equipment, MV distribution, metering, relaying, and SCADA/plant controllers. Technical expertise in power system design, optimization, and studies. Understanding of interconnection processes in ERCOT and similar markets. Advanced knowledge of steady-state modeling tools such as ETAP, SKP, or DigSILENT. Total Rewards Compensation: $220,000 to $260,000 (total compensation includes base salary + bonus in USD) Equity: Beyond your salary, you’ll receive an Equity Grant, giving you a meaningful stake in our parent company. Health & wellness: 100% premium coverage for you and your dependents on medical, dental, and vision Time to recharge: Unlimited PTO, plus two company-wide breaks (Fourth of July & end of year) Family support: Up to 12 weeks of fully paid parental leave, plus 6 additional weeks for birth parents; access to family planning and family care support through Carrot and Maven Mental health: Free access to Spring Health, including 5 free therapy and psychiatry sessions, plus a Headspace account for mindfulness and meditation through our physical health vendor, Wellhub+ Perks & extras: $150 monthly food stipend, $150 monthly reimbursement for cell phone and internet, pet insurance allowance, full home office setup, free access to UrbanSitter with $625 in quarterly company-paid credits, ActiveHero, and One Medical Intersect maintains a work environment free from discrimination, one where all employees are treated with dignity and respect.
