Description
As a member of the global genetic counseling team, the International and Operational Genetic Counselor (IOGC) utilizes their practical genetics knowledge to maintain high laboratory standards of genetic testing services. The IOGC works to support delivery of genomic services, including preimplantation genetic testing (PGT). Provides clinical support for CooperSurgical laboratory operations and both clinical and technical support for external clients. Key participant in improvement of delivered PGT product and in departmental contributions to the broader CooperSurgical organization.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
Quality assurance of PGT laboratory and genetic counseling protocols (70%) Utilizes practical knowledge in clinical, molecular, and population genetics to verify accuracy of data on laboratory reports Together with the laboratory scientists, assists with report writing for complicated or non-standard results Contributes to departmental and product improvement initiatives under direction of management Secondary responsibilities (20%) Focused clinical and technical support for CooperSurgical staff, clients and external genetic counselors, across all laboratories Management of domestic and international PGT-M and PGT-SR cases, from enrolment through test completion, including conducting genetic counseling consultations and generation of enrolment summary documents or genetic counseling consultation reports as applicable Conduct clinical review of PGT-M sub-cycle orders to ensure that current clinical case acceptance criteria are met Assists clinics, patients, and larger CooperSurgical organization with PGT processes Contributes to genetic counseling projects as directed by manager with short term objective ( Participates in genetic counseling meetings, training events and other group initiatives, as directed by manager Completes own continued education; logging and submitting CEUs required by organization granting board accreditation(s) Advancement Opportunities and Associated Demonstrated Competencies (10%) Successful completion of departmental and product improvement initiatives as assigned by manager. Examples include, but not limited to: Assist with post-launch data collection and analysis in support of PGT products Support reproductive genetic counseling team and/or Fertility Patient Programs with operational functions and quality initiatives Involvement in other ongoing projects, as approved by manager Demonstrated ability to handle complex PGT case reports, sub-cycle reviews, and laboratory investigations
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Human Genetics or equivalent field from American Board of Genetic Counseling accredited institution, or its international equivalent American Board of Genetic Counseling board certified Holds or is able to obtain genetic counseling license in appropriate states Three years of relevant genetic counseling work experience, including at least one year in a laboratory setting Demonstrated ability to accurately and efficiently manage complicated scenarios Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers Ability to sit for extended periods of time using computer equipment in normal office conditions; occasional need for domestic and/or international travel ( Passing of background check which may include verification of prior employment, criminal conviction history, educational and driving records.
