University of Colorado Anschutz Department: ClinImmune – The Center for Clinical Immunology Job Title: Assistant Professor Position #00848939 – Requisition #40116 Job Summary: Oversees and provides technical guidance to the laboratory supervisor, testing personnel, and reporting of test results, under the direction of the Laboratory Director. Responsible for the proper performance of all laboratory procedures and reporting of test results, in the absence of the laboratory director. Reviews clinical laboratory test results in order to report to clients the ABO and MHC compatibility of transplant recipients and donors which includes HLA molecular typing, HLA antibody, eplet analysis, and donor study analysis reports. Adheres to standards of external regulatory bodies including ASHI, CAP, and CLIA. Understands principles of histocompatibility and immunogenetics. Reviews reagent quality control by adhering to strict quality control and regulatory standards guidelines; oversees lead technologists who perform instrument function checks and preventive maintenance. Participates in on-call activities, continuing education, and resident rotation instruction. Key Responsibilities : Reviews the accessioning of samples into the database, verifies acceptability of specimens for testing, and ensures appropriate requisition accompanies each sample for testing. Understands principles and procedures of clinical histocompatibility and ABO testing, and uses that knowledge to review and approve test results for reporting to clinicians. Serves as a knowledge base with respect to routine performance and interpretation of results. Provides analytical and clinical consultation to laboratory staff and clients, including in an as-needed on-call basis. Reviews results of HLA panel reactive antibody testing, molecular typing, donor study analysis, HLA antibody screening, Eplet analysis, and T and B cell crossmatches performed on recipient/donor pairs. Reports these results accurately, and concisely communicates them as needed to transplant personnel. This includes communication with clients regarding status of results, resolution of requisition and labeling issues, and fielding client inquiries. Engages in clinical immunology research projects, particularly with implications for histocompatibility and immunogenetics. Utilizes a variety of bench techniques including, but not limited to, maintenance of laboratory equipment, mammalian cell culture, subcloning, flow cytometry, assay development, and various computational analyses. Actively participates in quality assurance and proficiency testing programs, ensuring adherence to regulatory compliance. Prepares SOPs, manages process development including validation and verification studies, and assesses personnel competency. Delivers technical lectures about histocompatibility principles and methodologies to transplant team members and HLA staff.
