Description
Overview
Technical position in the Utah Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (UVDL) with primary duties in the histology section with secondary duties in molecular diagnostics.
Responsibilities
Embed, section, and stain tissues of animal origin.
Perform special (non-routine) stains on tissue sections.
Clean and replace chemical solutions used in processing tissues.
Train and subsequently perform serum neutralization assays, which includes cell culture.
Serve as a backup in the UVDL molecular section by performing PCR-based assays on samples of animal origin.
Participate in the laboratory's quality system, including completion of necessary proficiency tests.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Two years of related experience (e.g. experience in molecular biology, etc.); OR an associate degree/vocational training; OR an equivalent combination of education plus experience in a biological science.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Capacity to learn/master new techniques.
Preferred Qualification:
Bachelor of science in biology-related field OR work experience in a histology, virology, or molecular laboratory.
