At Emory Healthcare.</strong></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>At Emory Healthcare we fuel your professional journey with better benefits, valuable resources, ongoing mentorship and leadership programs for all types of jobs, and a supportive environment that enables you to reach new heights in your career and be what you want to be. </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>We provide:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Comprehensive health benefits that start day one</li>\n <li>Student Loan Repayment Assistance & Reimbursement Programs</li>\n <li>Family-focused benefits </li>\n <li>Wellness incentives</li>\n <li>Ongoing mentorship and leadership programs </li>\n <li>And more!</li>\n</ul>\n<p>All levels of experience and education will be considered for this posting. </p>\n<h2>Description</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>Performs routine or complex histologic procedures to assist physicians in diagnosis and treatment while upholding the values of the organization.</li>\n <li>This includes providing and demonstrating exemplary customer service skills throughout the preanalytical, analytical and post analytical processes.</li>\n <li>Serves as a technical resource for less experienced staff and may supervise employees within a section of the department.</li>\n <li>Assists in research projects.</li>\n <li>May accession tissue specimens; prepares routine specimens for fixation in automatic processors.</li>\n <li>Embeds and sections specimens using a microtome.</li>\n <li>Affixes tissue to slides, stains, cover slips, and labels slides.</li>\n <li>Maintains a reference system of control blocks and slides for use in special studies.</li>\n <li>Prepares fixative and staining solutions according to established laboratory procedures.</li>\n <li>May perform frozen section microtomy.</li>\n <li>Operates precision laboratory instruments and scientific equipment.</li>\n <li>Performs preventive maintenance according to established procedures and schedules.</li>\n <li>Evaluates new instruments.</li>\n <li>Troubleshoots equipment issues, performs minor repairs, adjustments, or calibrations according to equipment service literature.</li>\n <li>Assists in the formulation and revision of departmental policies and procedures.</li>\n <li>Assists with monitoring and maintaining inventories of laboratory supplies and chemicals.</li>\n <li>Contacts suppliers to ensure adequate supplies of specific products for emergency and routine use.</li>\n <li>Performs and participates in the review and reporting of quality control activities in the laboratory.</li>\n <li>Takes required precautions to comply with CAP, organizational and other safety standards when working with specimens and laboratory equipment.</li>\n <li>May help maintain Safety Data Sheets.</li>\n <li>May keep productivity records and document specific procedures to support laboratory activities.</li>\n <li>Leads staff and provides input to employee performance; communicates goals and standards.</li>\n <li>Assists with employee scheduling and work assignments.</li>\n <li>Assists in developing, implementing and revising histologic policies and procedures.</li>\n <li>Evaluates reliability of current methodologies; recommends changes to improve current practices.</li>\n <li>Professional Development: Works with manager to formulate plan for professional development.</li>\n <li>Attends educational in-services as appropriate.</li>\n <li>Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.</li>\n <li>Performs other related duties as required.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</strong></p>\n<p> </p>\n<ul>\n <li>High School diploma, Bachelor's degree preferred but not required.</li>\n <li>Five years of relevant experience with supervisor/lead experience preferred.</li>\n <li>Certification as HTL (ASCP) or certification as HT(ASCP).</li>\n</ul>\n<p>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock , Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation , Shift work, Travel may be required.
