Description

Description The Assistant Counselor is a seasonal position that reports to the Head Counselor. This program will run from June 22-July 31(no camp on July 3) and the expected hours of work are 8:30 am-3:30 pm, Monday-Friday. The mandatory all staff training will take place on Tuesday, June 9 from 4:30 - 8:00 pm. Pre-camp staff training, lesson planning, classroom setup will take place the week of June 15 (no camp June 19.) The Assistant Counselor is an integral part of the summer camp staff and is responsible for supporting the Head Counselor in ensuring that the summer camp is a safe, fun and enriching experience for the campers. Duties and Responsibilities: Assisting the Head Counselor in executing daily activities including homebase time- Panther Day Camp offers outdoor excursions, sports, arts & crafts, games, educational and recreational opportunities for the campers. Discovery offers a variety of workshops which may include Archery, Camp Crafts, Tinkering, Tabletop Games and Coding. Actively participate in all camp activities to help build relationships with campers. Supervise campers at all times, including lunch and recess time prioritizing their well being and safety. Follow all safety protocols and procedures established by Summer@Potomac. Assist in cleaning, maintaining and ensuring proper use of Summer@Potomac facilities and equipment. Use positive and proactive techniques to resolve any camper behavioral issues. Effectively communicate such issues to the Head Counselor. Assist in morning arrival and afternoon dismissal of campers. Participate in staff orientations, pre-camp staff training, preparations for camp opening and meetings. Adhere to the procedures and policies outlined in The Summer@Potomac Staff Handbook. Participate in both morning arrival and afternoon dismissal. Assist with completing and submitting an accurate inventory lists to the camp office, ensuring that all listed items match the materials returned to storage Assist with the end-of-summer check-out procedures for assigned classrooms, ensuring all classrooms are left in better condition than they were found. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Must be 16 years of age. Previous experience of providing care to children is a plus. Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to engage and connect with campers of different ages and backgrounds. Responsible, energetic, enthusiastic and have a positive attitude. Physical ability to participate in activities with campers (run, sit on the floor, walk and stand for longer periods of time). Ability to participate in outdoor activities and withstand heat, sun and other weather conditions. Ability to work effectively as part of a team, taking direction from the Head Counselor and/or Camp Director and collaborating with other staff members. Ability to recognize and respond to individual and cultural differences within a diverse population of campers and staff. Ability and willingness to follow all policies and procedures outlined in the Summer@Potomac Handbook. All employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background investigation which involves fingerprinting and TB screening. The Assistant Counselor is an integral part of the summer camp staff and is responsible for supporting the Head Counselor in ensuring that the summer camp is a safe, fun and enriching experience for the campers.&nbsp;\\r\\n\\r\\nDuties and Responsibilities:\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\tAssisting the Head Counselor in executing daily activities including homebase time-\\r\\n\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\t\\tPanther Day Camp offers outdoor excursions, sports, arts &amp; crafts, games, educational and recreational opportunities for the campers.&nbsp;\\r\\n\\t\\tDiscovery offers a&nbsp; variety of workshops which may include Archery, Camp Crafts, Tinkering, Tabletop Games and Coding.\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tActively participate in all camp activities to help build relationships with campers.\\r\\n\\tSupervise campers at all times, including lunch and recess time prioritizing their well being and safety.\\r\\n\\tFollow all safety protocols and procedures established by Summer@Potomac.\\r\\n\\tAssist in cleaning, maintaining and ensuring proper use of Summer@Potomac facilities and equipment.\\r\\n\\tUse positive and proactive techniques to resolve any camper behavioral issues.
