Description

Description Position is responsible to assist in the development, coordination, and administration of all aspects of a Division I sport and clinical psychology program that serves approximately 350 intercollegiate student-athletes. This position is responsible for the comprehensive behavioral health services for all student-athletes. Provide individual and group psychological services to student-athletes, including initial evaluations, interventions, and overall treatment of planning on psychological issues most salient to student athletes. Demonstrate competence with delivery of services related to clinical issues experienced by student-athletes including but not limited to: depression, anxiety, substance abuse, mood concerns, eating disorders, grief, suicidal ideation, sexual identity, family crisis, issues related to transition into and out of college, academics, injury, burnout, conflict, interpersonal relationships, social challenges, personal conduct, distress tolerance, stress management. Work collaboratively within the athletic department and in conjunction with campus health services/mental health, sports medicine staff, manage referrals to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care for student-athletes needing outside services (team physician, in patient care, etc.). Adhere to all medical directives from the team physician. Provide professional consultation and outreach to APSU coaches, staff, and student-athletes regarding issues impacting student-athletes, including but not limited to: body image & disordered eating, other mental health concerns, psychological response to injury, student behavior, and behavioral decision-making in order to enhance the departmental climate for student success. Contribute to the development and delivery of educational programming on mental health issues and wellness topics, including but not limited to: transitioning in and out of the university, athlete identity, interpersonal relationships, cultivating resilience and perseverance, healthy striving and stress management. Actively participate in scheduled team and/or department wellness meetings. Recommend initiatives and implement changes to improve quality and services. Maintain contact with student-athletes and solicit feedback for improved services. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to present to groups of all ages and backgrounds, and strong public speaking skills; Strong crisis intervention skills; Knowledge in consulting with Athletics department staff, including coaches, administration, academics, sports medicine, and sports nutrition; Commitment to diversity and demonstrated competency in multicultural counseling skills; Knowledge of and adherence to professional, legal, ethical, and professional standards endorsed by licensing professional organization. Required Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Counseling, or Social Work Current license in clinical/counseling psychology, LPC / LICSW / LMFT or license eligible in Tennessee, in a related field. A minimum of four years experience post-graduate providing mental health services. Preferred: PhD or PsyD in Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or Sport Psychology. Post-doctoral experience providing mental health services to athletes or serving as a primary mental health provider/consultant to a sport organization. Certified Mental Performance Consultant ( CMPC ) through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology ( AASP ), or eligible for certification Physical Requirements Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
