Description

Mission is located in the lower mainland of BC and is situated in the traditional territory of the Stó꞉lō Peoples including Sq’ewlets, Leq’a:mel, Sema:th, Mathexwi, Kwantlen, and Katzie territories. Mission is a rapidly growing and dynamic community of approximately 41,500 residents, located 15 minutes north of the US border and 70 kilometers east of Vancouver. Although Mission is part of a broader metropolitan area, it still maintains its distinct and welcoming small-town character. The City of Mission’s Parks, Recreation and Culture Department is looking for Recreation Instructors for our Summer Camp programs. This position will work with children ages 5-12. This position will ensure the safety and well-being of participants and will communicate and work cooperatively with participants, parents, supervisors, and community agencies. In this role you will plan, lead, and support developmentally-appropriate and engaging activities for children enrolled in the Club K.I.D.S. program. You will participate with children in an enthusiastic, respectful, and friendly manner. Instructors should be confident leading and assisting groups of children in a camp setting. They must also be able to support designated children requiring additional behavioural, social, or inclusion support in a 1:1 role. Candidates for this role must have an understanding of child development including their physical, intellectual, creative, and emotional needs. They should have knowledge of the Care and Assisted Living Act. They must also have strong skills in communication, conflict resolution, problem solving, and leadership. The candidate will have proven sound judgment, ethical decision making, and the ability to stay calm under pressure and/or when handling conflicting priorities. All candidates must possess a minimum of 20 hours of Responsible Adult training and a valid Standard First Aid with CPR certificate. University education, BCRPA High Five certification, and NCCP certification are considered assets. Candidates must be willing and able to actively participate in swimming, skating, and a variety of recreation activities. This is a highly active role that requires frequent walking to and from program locations and active participation alongside children throughout the camp day. A Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check is required as a condition of employment. As this is a Fraser Health licensed program, all candidates must be at least 19 years of age. The successful candidates will be available from June 29 to August 28, 2026 from 7:30am-6pm. The hourly rate of pay is $20.30-22.30 per hour plus 4% vacation pay. There will be a mandatory training date on June 13th that candidates must be able to attend.
