Description

S ummary: Make repairs to equipment, make judgment calls in order to keep the road equipment functioning, be able to assess the jobs and repair in a timely manner. Essential Duties and Responsibilities : include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Performs major and minor repairs of gasoline and diesel engines. Must be able to analyze the situation and make decisions as to needed repairs or replacement, thus saving taxpayer dollars. Provides leadership and direction in the development of short and long range plans. Performs a variety of administrative, supervisory, semi-skilled, and skilled work in maintaining the vehicles and mechanical equipment of the department. Works under the Administrative supervision of the Fleet Manager Superintendent. Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public. Provides personal tools to accomplish necessary repairs. Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites work flow; studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of assigned work and Administrative operation. Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent Eight-to-ten years of experience in diesel/gasoline mechanics. Trade school coursework/certifications preferred. Supervisory Responsibilities: Manages and supervises mechanics; plans and organizes workloads and staff assignments; trains and motivates assigned staff. Working Relationships: Must be able to work well with the operators, supervisors, and staff from other Departments who use County vehicles. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, use hands to handle or feel objects/controls, reach with hands and arms, and talk, see, and hear. The incumbent must regularly lift 40 pounds and occasionally lift items weighing 75 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, peripheral, depth perception and the ability to see colors.
