Description

Duties Responsibilities Advising • Provide academic advising and guidance with adherence to University, College, and School graduation requirements and academic policies. • Advise undergraduate music students on courses of study, registration processes, and all matters related to degree requirements. Provide advice and counsel regarding academic and career options, as needed. Advising sessions are primarily on an individual basis, by groups as needed. • Operate and maintain records and information using current campus computing systems. Thoroughly document all student contact using the advising portal system. • Monitor student academic progress toward graduation using the Degree Audit Reporting System (DARS). • Ensure that course sequencing occurs at the proper time within each curriculum. • Develop, compile, and distribute reports using undergraduate student data as requested by administrative team, college, and campus. • Monitor student progress and provide proactive outreach, support, and referrals to campus, academic, and external resources as needed, including for students on academic probation. Respond to queries from students, faculty, staff, and parents/families as appropriate (within the parameters of FERPA). • Provide advice and guidance to faculty regarding School, College, and University academic policies and practices as well as enrollment issues. • Collaborate with other School of Music Academic Affairs and Admissions team members to deliver a quality student experience; create and maintain a welcoming environment that is inclusive of and sensitive to students from a wide range of backgrounds. • Meet with and advise prospective students and their families as needed. Engage in purposeful discussion with students to assess qualifications for entry into specific majors. • Participate in the New Student Summer Registration program (late May – mid July) for the advisement and registration of incoming first-year and transfer students in the School of Music. • Provide additional support for transfer students navigating their degree programs. Teacher Licensure Compliance • Work with School of Music faculty and COTE to ensure teacher certification documents are in order for music education (BME) majors, including but not limited to state exams for licensure. This includes holding informational workshops for BME majors as necessary. • Assist music education faculty with student teacher placement as requested. Administrative duties • Serve as needed on School of Music, College of Fine and Applied Arts, and campus committees. • Serve as a liaison between the School of Music, College of Fine and Applied Arts, and College of Education (COTE) colleagues on issues related to undergraduate academic advising. • Assist with Admissions cycle as needed in conjunction with Director of Admissions. • Participate as needed in any School of Music course and curricula review process. • Assist with planning and managing annual Convocation ceremony.
