ROLE SUMMARY: The Employment Development Specialist provides individualized, student-centered employment support to help learners achieve long-term career success. This includes assessing students’ needs, setting SMART goals, developing employment materials such as resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn profiles, and interview skills, and leading job readiness and soft skills workshops tailored to diverse learners. The role supports the full employment process from preparation and referrals to job placement, follow-up, retention, and alumni career support. The Specialist works closely with internal teams and external partners, including instructors, retention staff, and job developers, to ensure coordinated support for students, while maintaining accurate records, employment data, and compliance documentation in the Student Information System. The position also assists with departmental events and provides support for other organizational needs as required. CORE WORKSTREAMS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Career Counseling, Assessment, and Individualized Planning ● Conduct student intake and initial assessments to understand employment needs and goals. ● Create individualized employment plans and provide one-on-one career guidance. ● Assist students in creating and improving employment portfolios, including resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn profiles, and other job search materials. ● Follow up with students to support progress toward short and long-term employment goals. Job Readiness Training, Workshops & Skill Development ● Organize and facilitate in-class and virtual job readiness workshops and school-wide employment skills training. ● Develop or tailor workshop materials to meet the needs of diverse learners. ● Evaluate training effectiveness through participant feedback, pre/post assessments, and outcome tracking; update curriculum continuously based on findings. ● Prepare students for interviews and hiring processes, including mock interviews and industry-specific expectations. Job Development, Employer Engagement & Placement Support ● Conduct job development and job search activities aligned with student interests and strengths. ● Assist students with job applications, employment accounts, and online job search tools. ● Support employer engagement activities, including job fairs, employer outreach, networking events, and placement initiatives. ● Serve as a liaison between students and the Employment Coordinator to match qualified candidates to available positions. ● Maintain strong employer relationships to support ongoing job placement opportunities. Case Documentation, Data Management & Compliance ● Maintain accurate, complete, and timely case notes for all student interactions, services rendered, and employment outcomes in the Student Information System (SIS). ● Track and update employment data for each student, including job placements and retention status. ● Ensure all documentation adheres to data privacy standards, grant compliance requirements, and departmental policies. ● Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational priorities. WHAT YOU’LL BRING: ● Core knowledge and professional expertise ● Strong communication and facilitation skills ● Relationship-building and maintenance ● Organizational and administrative skills ● Strong Data Accuracy, Privacy and Documentation Discipline ● Must be able to take Initiative, be reliable, and work independently on occasions ● Cross-Team Collaboration and Service Coordination EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND OTHER EXPERIENCES ● Bachelor degree in business, human resources, social work or related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience as a case manager or career specialist or the appropriate combination of education and experience ● Bilingual fluency in Spanish or Amharic. ● Demonstrated experience in public speaking and workshop leadership. ● Ability to conduct internet-based research. ● Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, include a demonstrated ability to work in diverse, cross-cultural settings. ● Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams. ● Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new database systems for outcomes tracking. ● Deep commitment to CRIPCS's core values and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB), and ability to model those values in relationships with colleagues and partners. Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, and Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm Wednesday and Thursday 12:00 pm – 8:30 pm The position requires working some Saturdays during the year.
