    "description": "<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Overview</span><br></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>RiverFlow Dredging is seeking a<span style=\"font-weight: bold\"> Relief Master /Chief Mate</span> with a demonstrated ability to manage ship, crew, and dredging operations efficiently. This position will be based on the <span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><em>RiverFlow Spirit</em></span>, a trailing suction hopper dredger that will commence operations in the Fraser River in June 2026.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Duties &amp; Responsibilities</span><br></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>The Relief Master /Chief Mate’s duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>Supervising the crew, navigation, dredging process, and maintenance of the dredging equipment.</li>\n<li>Supervising the daily operations on board to ensure that the equipment is used in such a manner that optimal production is achieved in compliance with safety, maritime and environmental regulations.</li>\n<li>Communicating with Dredging Management, DPA, Surveyors, and local Authorities.</li>\n<li>Verifying certificates appropriate to the vessel and operating area.</li>\n<li>Implementing and executing company policies and the Safety Management System, when required.</li>\n<li>Coordinating of crew activities</li>\n<li>Checking and maintaining safety and environmental regulations on board.</li>\n<li>Optimizing the production and the continuity of the vessel.</li>\n<li>Maintaining ship and personnel administration (e.g. ship’s log, daily report).</li>\n<li>Complying with national and international maritime law and regulations.</li>\n<li>Ensuring that maintenance is carried out in an efficient and most economical manner in cooperation with the Technical Manager.</li>\n<li>Taking charge of a navigation watch when Chief Mate, and as necessary when Master.</li>\n<li>Ensuring that the vessel is clean and necessary maintenance is carried out.</li>\n<li>Ensuring the deck equipment is properly maintained.</li>\n<li>Inspecting, caring for and maintaining the lifesaving and firefighting equipment.</li>\n<li>Initiating orders for deck stores, as required.</li>\n<li>Inputting/updating information into electronic maintenance management system.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies</span><br></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Certificate of Competency\n<ul>\n<li>Preferred-Master Mariner</li>\n<li>Minimum-Master, Near Coastal</li>\n</ul>\n</li>\n<li>Marine Medical Certificate</li>\n<li>Certificate of Proficiency inSTCWBasic Safety</li>\n<li>Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats</li>\n<li>Certificate of Proficiency in Advance Fire Fighting</li>\n<li>Certificate of Proficiency inMarine Advanced First Aid</li>\n<li>Restricted Operator’s Certificate (Maritime Commercial) ROC-MC, minimum</li>\n<li>Certificate of Proficiency as a Ship Security Officer</li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Eligible to be added to Pacific Pilotage Authority Coastal Waiver from Compulsory Pilotage</span></li>\n<li>Eligible to work in Canada</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Working Conditions</span><br></p>\n<p><br><br></p>\n<ul>\n<li>12-hour days with overtime as required</li>\n<li>Unionized position with the Canadian Merchant Service Guild</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>This position is challenging, interesting and will be well suited to an individual looking to further expand their existing skill set and take part in an exciting experience within a strong and healthy work environment.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>We thank all applicants for their interest; only candidates who have been selected for an interview will be contacted.</p>",
