Description
Overview
RiverFlow Dredging is seeking a Relief Master /Chief Mate with a demonstrated ability to manage ship, crew, and dredging operations efficiently. This position will be based on the RiverFlow Spirit , a trailing suction hopper dredger that will commence operations in the Fraser River in June 2026.
Duties & Responsibilities
The Relief Master /Chief Mate’s duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Supervising the crew, navigation, dredging process, and maintenance of the dredging equipment.
Supervising the daily operations on board to ensure that the equipment is used in such a manner that optimal production is achieved in compliance with safety, maritime and environmental regulations.
Communicating with Dredging Management, DPA, Surveyors, and local Authorities.
Verifying certificates appropriate to the vessel and operating area.
Implementing and executing company policies and the Safety Management System, when required.
Coordinating of crew activities
Checking and maintaining safety and environmental regulations on board.
Optimizing the production and the continuity of the vessel.
Maintaining ship and personnel administration (e.g. ship’s log, daily report).
Complying with national and international maritime law and regulations.
Ensuring that maintenance is carried out in an efficient and most economical manner in cooperation with the Technical Manager.
Taking charge of a navigation watch when Chief Mate, and as necessary when Master.
Ensuring that the vessel is clean and necessary maintenance is carried out.
Ensuring the deck equipment is properly maintained.
Inspecting, caring for and maintaining the lifesaving and firefighting equipment.
Initiating orders for deck stores, as required.
Inputting/updating information into electronic maintenance management system.
