Faculty and staff deliver high-quality academics, hands-on experiential learning, and personalized attention to support student success. Join our award-winning team, recognized as a “Best College to Work For,” and be part of a vibrant culture that places a premium on collaboration and belonging.
The School of Arts & Sciences at Mount St. Joseph University invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor or Instructor of Mathematics position, beginning August 2026. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to a student-centered program with strong ties to teacher preparation and a growing emphasis on applied and interdisciplinary learning.
Mount St. Joseph University is well known for its excellence in education programs, and this role will play an important part in supporting and mentoring future mathematics educators. The successful candidate will work closely with undergraduate math education majors and collaborate with faculty across disciplines.
Pedagogy is central to this position. We are especially interested in candidates who demonstrate a strong commitment to effective, evidence-based teaching practices and who are passionate about helping students learn, persist, and succeed in mathematics. The ideal candidate will bring thoughtful approaches to instruction, including active learning, inclusive teaching strategies, and a focus on conceptual understanding.
In addition, the position will support the university’s expanding computer science offerings, including providing instruction in statistics and calculus that supports the planned Artificial Intelligence (AI) major. This creates a unique opportunity to connect mathematics instruction with real-world applications in data, computing, and emerging technologies.
Candidates with experience or interest in applied tools such as Python, SQL, or data visualization platforms (e.g., Tableau or Power BI) are especially encouraged to apply. These skills will allow the candidate to contribute to a broader range of courses and support interdisciplinary teaching across mathematics, data, and computing.
Candidates with K–12 teaching experience who are interested in transitioning to higher education are strongly encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities include:
Teaching undergraduate courses in mathematics, including introductory, statistics, and calculus courses.
Designing and delivering high-quality instruction grounded in effective pedagogical practices.
Supporting and mentoring students pursuing math education pathways.
Assisting with departmental advising and mentoring undergraduate students.
Developing engaging, student-centered learning experiences that emphasize conceptual understanding and real-world application.
Collaborating with faculty in computer science and related areas to support interdisciplinary programs, including the AI major.
Contributing to courses or modules that integrate mathematics with data analysis, programming, or visualization where appropriate.
Participating in or contributing to grant writing and external funding efforts that support program development, student success, or interdisciplinary initiatives.
Contributing to program development and continuous improvement, particularly in curriculum and pedagogy.
Providing service to the department, university, and professional community.
Engaging in scholarly or professional activities appropriate to rank and appointment.
Fulfilling other duties as assigned to support the mission of the School of Arts & Sciences and the university.
Qualifications
For Assistant Professor (tenure-track): Ph.D. in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a closely related field from an accredited institution; ABD applicants will be considered.
For Instructor (non-tenure track): Master’s degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a closely related field.
We welcome candidates with a strong commitment to teaching and student success. Experience teaching mathematics at the secondary level is valued, and candidates with K–12 teaching backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Preferred qualifications include:
Demonstrated strength in pedagogy, including experience with active learning, inclusive teaching, or curriculum development.
Experience teaching statistics, calculus, or quantitative reasoning courses.
Interest or experience in mathematics education and teacher preparation.
Familiarity with applied tools such as Python, SQL, or data visualization platforms (e.g., Tableau or Power BI).
Ability to connect mathematics to applied fields such as data science or artificial intelligence.
Interest or experience in grant writing or participation in externally funded projects.
Evidence of effective, student-centered teaching and mentorship.
Interest in scholarship related to mathematics education, pedagogy, or applied mathematics.
We seek candidates who embody our mission, are committed to inclusive and engaging teaching practices, and are excited to contribute to a collaborative and evolving program.

This position offers an opportunity to contribute to a student-centered program with strong ties to teacher preparation and a growing emphasis on applied and interdisciplinary learning.\\r\\n\\r\\nMount St. Joseph University is well known for its excellence in education programs, and this role will play an important part in supporting and mentoring future mathematics educators. The successful candidate will work closely with undergraduate math education majors and collaborate with faculty across disciplines.\\r\\n\\r\\nPedagogy is central to this position. We are especially interested in candidates who demonstrate a strong commitment to effective, evidence-based teaching practices and who are passionate about helping students learn, persist, and succeed in mathematics. The ideal candidate will bring thoughtful approaches to instruction, including active learning, inclusive teaching strategies, and a focus on conceptual understanding.\\r\\n\\r\\nIn addition, the position will support the university’s expanding computer science offerings, including providing instruction in statistics and calculus that supports the planned Artificial Intelligence (AI) major. This creates a unique opportunity to connect mathematics instruction with real-world applications in data, computing, and emerging technologies.\\r\\n\\r\\nCandidates with experience or interest in applied tools such as Python, SQL, or data visualization platforms (e.g., Tableau or Power BI) are especially encouraged to apply. These skills will allow the candidate to contribute to a broader range of courses and support interdisciplinary teaching across mathematics, data, and computing.\\r\\n\\r\\nCandidates with K–12 teaching experience who are interested in transitioning to higher education are strongly encouraged to apply.\\r\\n\\r\\nResponsibilities include:\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tTeaching undergraduate courses in mathematics, including introductory, statistics, and calculus courses.\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tDesigning and delivering high-quality instruction grounded in effective pedagogical practices.\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tSupporting and mentoring students pursuing math education pathways.\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tAssisting with departmental advising and mentoring undergraduate students.\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tDeveloping engaging, student-centered learning experiences that emphasize conceptual understanding and real-world application.\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tCollaborating with faculty in computer science and related areas to support interdisciplinary programs, including the AI major.\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tContributing to courses or modules that integrate mathematics with data analysis, programming, or visualization where appropriate.\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tParticipating in or contributing to grant writing and external funding efforts that support program development, student success, or interdisciplinary initiatives.\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tContributing to program development and continuous improvement, particularly in curriculum and pedagogy.\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tProviding service to the department, university, and professional community.\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tEngaging in scholarly or professional activities appropriate to rank and appointment.\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tFulfilling other duties as assigned to support the mission of the School of Arts & Sciences and the university.\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\r\\n\",\"employmentType\":\"FULL_TIME\",\"hiringOrganization\":{\"@type\":\"Organization\",\"name\":\"MOUNT ST JOSEPH UNIVERSITY\",\"logo\":\"https://www.paycomonline.net/v4/ats/web.php/application/style/logo?clientkey=BC25C89BF322A723B1E209741EE99F00\"},\"jobLocation\":{\"@type\":\"Place\",\"address\":{\"streetAddress\":\"5701 Delhi Road\",\"addressLocality\":\"Cincinnati\",\"addressRegion\":\"OH\",\"postalCode\":\"45233-1670\",\"addressCountry\":\"USA\"}},\"qualifications\":\"For Assistant Professor (tenure-track): Ph.D. in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a closely related field from an accredited institution; ABD applicants will be considered.\\n\\nFor Instructor (non-tenure track): Master’s degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a closely related field.\\n\\nWe welcome candidates with a strong commitment to teaching and student success.
