    "requisitionDescription": "<div><div><div><div><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\" data-pasted=\"true\">The American Lung Association has an excellent opportunity for a <strong>Specialist, Health Promotions&nbsp;</strong>Working as a member of the <strong>Health Promotion &amp; Education</strong> department, you will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease through research, education, and advocacy.</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\">The Specialist, Health Promotions will be responsible for implementing community interventions and health system change as part of the CT Best Practices in Tobacco Control program. Includes working with youth to develop tobacco control advocacy groups and working with community organizations to increase awareness and implement tobacco cessation programming throughout Connecticut. This is a 100% grant-funded position.</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\"><strong>Location: Connecticut</strong></p><div style=\"margin-left:0in;\"><ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\"><li style=\"margin-left:0in;\">If near the East Hartford, Connecticut office location, this role will be hybrid and require a minimum of two days per week in the office. We are also considering remote applicants and encourage candidates across the state of Connecticut to apply.</li></ul></div><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\"><strong>Responsibilities:</strong></p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\">&minus;&nbsp;Develop relationships with youth-serving organizations throughout the catchment area.</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\">&minus; Recruit, train and retain interested youth to form Youth Advocacy Groups to educate local leaders and state legislators on youth tobacco use and its impact in communities, and engage in events to create awareness and support for initiatives.</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\">&minus; Collaborate with staff and statewide partners to plan, organize, and hold a Day at the Capitol advocacy day to facilitate meetings between youth advocates and legislators.</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\">&minus; Write and submit op-ed and letter to the editor articles to periodicals and newspapers in Connecticut to raise awareness of the benefits of tobacco-free environments and policies.</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\">&minus; Educate decision makers and tenants/occupants on the benefits of adopting tobacco-free policies in various spaces in Connecticut by offering virtual and in-person events and presentations.</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\">&minus; Engage with Connecticut school districts, teachers, and parents to implement and promote youth focused cessation and prevention programming.</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\">&minus; Provide information and technical assistance to employers to promote tobacco-free policies and referral programs to the CT Quitline and Lung Health Navigator support.</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\">&minus; Provide sponsorship and participate in community events to promote tobacco-free spaces and events, providing educational materials and signage as appropriate to engage with community members.</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\">&minus;&nbsp;Develop and submit timely reports as required by the Association and funders, including but not</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\">limited to weekly updates in the Association&rsquo;s database, as well as monthly management, grant, and program metrics reports.</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\">&minus; Represent the American Lung Association as a member of community, civic, and/or health coalitions and organizations related to the Association&rsquo;s mission.</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\">&minus; Build, maintain, and cultivate relationships with funders, facilitators, and community partners to encourage program delivery, sustainability, and growth across service territory, including the American Lung Association&rsquo;s programs where applicable.</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\">&minus; Select and participate in local, state, and national seminars and courses designed to increase skills and knowledge related to job requirements.</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\">&minus;&nbsp;Serve on the Association&rsquo;s regional and national workgroups and committees as requested.</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\">&minus; Participate in and support all area events and provide support for annual report, awards, grants and other activities as assigned.</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\"><strong>Qualifications:&nbsp;</strong>&nbsp;</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\">&minus; Bachelor&rsquo;s Degree in public health, education, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\">&minus; Minimum of two years&rsquo; direct experience working with youth in a community setting and developing and implementing community awareness, education, and programs specifically related to youth in areas of public health required</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\">&minus;&nbsp;At least one year of volunteer recruitment experience strongly preferred</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\">&minus;&nbsp;Prior experience in public health, community relations, public policy, and/or advocacy.</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\">&minus;&nbsp;Must be a self-starter with excellent communication skills, both written and oral.</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\">&minus;&nbsp;Positive attitude with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\">&minus;&nbsp;Ability to lift approximately 25 lbs. (supplies)</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\">&minus;&nbsp;Able to work with minimum direct supervision, make decisions, and take initiative.</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\">&minus;&nbsp;Proven ability to cultivate and steward relationships across a diverse population.</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\">&minus; Must have a valid Driver&rsquo;s license and your own reliable transportation with the ability to travel within assigned area (Connecticut) 60% of the time for meetings and conferences, as well as the flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends with some overnights required</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\">&minus;&nbsp;Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and Internet applications.</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\">&minus;&nbsp;Consistent with its mission, the American Lung Association maintains a smoke-free workplace; all</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\">employees must abstain from tobacco use in any form, including vaping.</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\"><strong>Compensation:</strong> Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
