What is this job? The Strawbridge School provides speech and language assessments and therapeutic services to the youth in our care. The Speech Language Pathologist works collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team of support professionals to deliver high-quality services and help ensure positive educational and developmental outcomes for our students at The Strawbridge School. What is the Strawbridge School? The Strawbridge School is a non-public school approved by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). The program provides small, caring classroom settings guided by certified special education teachers. The school serves youth with emotional, behavioral, and/or intellectual challenges in a supportive and nurturing environment.   Our team addresses the unique educational needs of students who have been unable to thrive in a public-school setting. The Strawbridge School is one of several programs provided by the Everstand, a national children and family-focused charity headquartered in Baltimore. Essential Functions: •  Model and act in accordance with Everstand’s core values: safety, empathy, relationships, and impact. • Demonstrate and practice Everstand’s leadership mindset, “Choose kindness. Solve problems and learn together. Make it happen.” • Screens and/or evaluates students for possible speech, language, or hearing effects. • Reviews the IEP, develops speech therapy goals and objectives, and makes recommendations for changes to the IEP. • Evaluate hearing and speech/language test results and medical or background information to diagnose and plan treatment for speech, language, fluency, voice, and swallowing disorders . •  Administer hearing or speech/language evaluations, tests, or examinations to patients to collect information on type and degree of impairments, using written and oral tests and special instruments. • Provide group and/or individual SLP therapy sessions to assigned Strawbridge School students diagnosed as having speech and language problems. • Prepare lessons and secure materials for individual and/or group therapy sessions. •Documents speech/language services in accordance with the following standards: Everstand, IEP, COMAR, Medicaid, and MSDE. •Record information on the initial evaluation, treatment, progress, and discharge of clients within defined timelines using Everstand’s electronic health records system. •Develop and implement treatment plans for problems such as stuttering, delayed language, swallowing disorders, and inappropriate pitch or harsh voice problems, based on own assessments and recommendations of physicians, social workers and other agency staff. •Employ alternative diagnostic or communication devices and strategies. •Refer clients to additional medical or educational services if needed. •Provide consultation to parents, teacher, other staff members and consultants regarding diagnostic finding, appropriate programming and goal establishment for students with communication problems. •Participate in interdisciplinary meetings regarding students (case management, ARD, interdisciplinary staff meetings) and other staff meetings (clinical staff, in-service) •Provide on-going staff development opportunities pertaining to speech, language, and hearing disorders. •Provide interpretation of testing information to Strawbridge School staff, students and parent/guardian. •Attend outside in-services and workshops for professional growth. Participate in conferences or training to share knowledge of new hearing or speech disorder treatment methods or technologies. •Obtain and maintain certification as a “user” in Everstand’s electronic health record software system, Cx360. •Maintain professional speech-language pathology licensure in accordance with a Maryland State Licensing Board. Work Environment: This job operates in a professional school environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. In the nature of being at a residential and living environment there may be times you experience conditions in which challenging behavior can be exhibited from our youth to include but not limited to, physical agitation, physical violence and/or emotion outburst. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a part-time, 11-month position (24-29 hours a week). Days and hours of work are dependent on student caseload and school schedule. School is in session Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 2:45pm. Eligible for flex schedule within the same pay period. This position is non-essential during weather-related emergencies. Required Education and Experience •Possession of a Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an approved college or university • Possession of a CFY (Clinical Fellowship Year) limited license as a SLP-CF (clinical fellowship) from the Board of Examiners for Audiologists, Hearing Aid Dispensers, Speech-Language Pathologists & Music Therapists • Possession of a Board-approved CFY Plan to include this place of employment (The Strawbridge School) • Be under the supervision of a fully licensed speech-language pathologist Preferred Education and Experience • Possession of a full license as an CCC-SLP from the Board of Examiners for Audiologists, Hearing Aid Dispensers, Speech-Language Pathologists & Music Therapists • Possession of Certificate of Clinical Competency in Speech Pathology from ASHA (American Speech/Language and Hearing Association) •Possession of a license in Speech Pathology from the Maryland State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and a certificate as a Speech/Language Pathologist from MSDE •Minimum of one-year clinical experience working with students in a school setting Additional Eligibility Qualifications •Ability to demonstrate the possession of a valid driver’s license prior to employment and ability to maintain the license and operate a motor vehicle thereafter. •Ability to pass CPS/UII background check both prior to employment and per the schedule outlined by HR thereafter. •Ability to pass a Tuberculosis Screening both prior to employment and per the schedule outlined by HR thereafter. •Ability to pass a work-readiness physical performed by a certified medical professional both prior to employment and per the schedule outlined by HR thereafter. •Ability to pass a Federal and State Fingerprinting Background Check both prior to employment and per the schedule outlined by HR thereafter. •Ability to pass a drug screen via urinalysis both prior to employment and randomly thereafter.
