Description
Position Title: Onground Adjunct Instructor for EDUC 540: Mathematics for Teachers in Diverse and Inclusive Educational Settings (Grades N-6)
Division: Graduate School of Education
Course: EDUC 540: Mathematics for Teachers in Diverse and Inclusive Educational Settings (Grades N-6) (2 credits)
Term: Summer 1 2026, Onground
Dates : May 11, 2026 - June 15, 2026
5/12, 5/14, 5/19, 5/21, 5/26, 5/28, 6/2, 6/4 This course is scheduled to run Tuesday and Thursday, 5:15 – 8:45 pm, onground. Day and time are subject to change. Course Description:
This course provides participants with an overview of mathematics learning for children grades N-6. Participants deepen their own mathematical knowledge while furthering their understanding of effective mathematics instruction. In each session, participants do math together and use these experiences to investigate the development of mathematical thinking and to reflect on their own learning. Participants explore the essential elements of a constructivist mathematics classroom in which collaboration is core to building concepts and skills. Designing a classroom where deep mathematical understanding is the primary goal requires explorations of attitudes and beliefs as well as practices and expectations. This course addresses the moral imperative that all students are capable of learning math. It focuses on creating inclusive environments for learners with developmental variations. The course also focuses on creating mathematical experiences that support students for whom English is a new language. Participants discuss classroom management strategies for grouping and individualizing instruction.
Responsibilities:
Develop and deliver course content and materials aligned with the program curriculum. Grade and evaluate student performance in a timely manner, providing constructive feedback. Maintain open communication with students, including scheduled office hours or availability for consultation. Submit final grades and required course documentation (e.g., attendance records) by institutional deadlines. Collaborate with program faculty on course coordination and attend relevant program meetings, if necessary.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in education or related field required. Doctorate preferred. 5 or more years of experience teaching math to children in grades preK-6. Experience working in public schools and with children from a range of cultural and linguistic background. Experience teaching at the graduate level, preferred.
Compensation
$4,276

Our children’s programs—Bank Street School for Children, Family Center, Bank Street Head Start, and Liberty LEADS—foster children’s development in the broadest sense by providing diverse opportunities for social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth. The Bank Street Education Center disrupts inequity through system-level change to help design better educational experiences for both children and adults. The College further supports and influences positive outcomes for children every day through professional development programs, research projects, and other key efforts engaging educators, intermediary organizations, and government officials at the district, state, and federal levels.

"CorporateDescriptionStr": "<div>\n Bank Street is a leader in education, a pioneer in improving the quality of classroom practice, and a national advocate for children and their families. \n</div>\n<div>\n Since its beginnings in 1916, Bank Street has been at the forefront of understanding how children learn and grow. From early childhood centers and schools to hospitals and museums, Bank Street has built a national reputation on the simple fact that our graduates know how to do the work that is right for children.\n</div>\n<div>\n At Bank Street’s Graduate School of Education, students are trained in a model that combines the study of human development, learning theory, and sustained clinical placement to promote significant development as a teacher prior to graduation. The College further supports and influences positive outcomes for children every day through professional development programs, research projects, and other key efforts engaging educators, intermediary organizations, and government officials at the district, state, and federal levels.\n</div>",
