Collins has an opening for a Resident Engineer in our Salt Lake City, Utah, office. The primary responsibility of this role is to lead large-scale construction projects working with UDOT. The Resident Engineer is an integral part of the construction management team. Responsibilities of the position are to perform inspection of construction activities to document conformance to plans and specifications, sample/test materials, document contract quantities, manage other inspection staff, and ensure high quality construction for transportation projects.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for monitoring contractor conformance to quality, performance, and specifications for assigned construction activities.
Proactively interacts with the contractor and communicates decisions to the Project Manager.
Reviews, analyzes, and resolves issues related to construction activities.
Performs complex engineering computations involving conventional engineering practices.
Produces complete engineering plans or reports.
Reviews contractor schedules (Primavera and Gantt charts).
Develops, documents, and implements contract modifications.
Maintains active involvement in technical societies.
Prepares engineering papers and presentations.
Assists in coordinating project submittals, cost control, scheduling, reporting, and document control activities.
Develops and tracks project activities relating to cost, specifications, changes, and schedule.
Plans, schedules, conducts, and/or coordinates detailed phases of assigned project work.
Regularly communicates with clients.
Attends meetings or events outside of normal working hours, as required.
Performs and monitors daily field inspections and maintains inspection records.
Performs field work as required, which may include nights and weekends.
Directs and supervises the work of other engineers, technicians, drafters, and administrative staff. Actively observes and acts in an appropriate manner related to safety.
Ensures that staff needing specialized training in health and safety procedures and practices receives such training and that safety is discussed as an important aspect of their work.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management from an accredited four-year university; general engineering knowledge of staging, electrical construction, utility construction, roadway construction, and bridge construction; and 3-5 years of construction management or related experience.
Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification, and appropriate continuing education, required.
Extensive use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and construction management databases/tracking software is required for this role.
Ability to obtain certifications for material sampling/testing for aggregates, concrete, asphalt, grading, etc. (ACI, NICET, or state certifications)
Ability to obtain certifications for inspection of roadways, bridges, coatings, etc. (NICET or state certifications)
Valid driver’s license without restrictions.

Responsibilities of the position are to perform inspection of construction activities to document conformance to plans and specifications, sample/test materials, document contract quantities, manage other inspection staff, and ensure high quality construction for transportation projects. \\n \\n\\nTypical Duties and Responsibilities: \\n\\n\\n\\t\\n\\tResponsible for monitoring contractor conformance to quality, performance, and specifications for assigned construction activities. \\n\\t\\n\\n\\n\\n\\t\\n\\tProactively interacts with the contractor and communicates decisions to the Project Manager. \\n\\t\\n\\n\\n\\n\\t\\n\\tReviews, analyzes, and resolves issues related to construction activities. \\n\\t\\n\\n\\n\\n\\t\\n\\tPerforms complex engineering computations involving conventional engineering practices. \\n\\t\\n\\n\\n\\n\\t\\n\\tProduces complete engineering plans or reports. \\n\\t\\n\\n\\n\\n\\t\\n\\tReviews contractor schedules (Primavera and Gantt charts). \\n\\t\\n\\n\\n\\n\\t\\n\\tDevelops, documents, and implements contract modifications. \\n\\t\\n\\n\\n\\n\\t\\n\\tMaintains active involvement in technical societies. \\n\\t\\n\\n\\n\\n\\t\\n\\tPrepares engineering papers and presentations. \\n\\t\\n\\n\\n\\n\\t\\n\\tAssists in coordinating project submittals, cost control, scheduling, reporting, and document control activities. \\n\\t\\n\\n\\n\\n\\t\\n\\tDevelops and tracks project activities relating to cost, specifications, changes, and schedule. \\n\\t\\n\\n\\n\\n\\t\\n\\tPlans, schedules, conducts, and/or coordinates detailed phases of assigned project work. \\n\\t\\n\\n\\n\\n\\t\\n\\tRegularly communicates with clients. \\n\\t\\n\\n\\n\\n\\t\\n\\tAttends meetings or events outside of normal working hours, as required. \\n\\t\\n\\n\\n\\n\\t\\n\\tPerforms and monitors daily field inspections and maintains inspection records. \\n\\t\\n\\n\\n\\n\\t\\n\\tPerforms field work as required, which may include nights and weekends. \\n\\t\\n\\n\\n\\n\\t\\n\\tDirects and supervises the work of other engineers, technicians, drafters, and administrative staff.
