As part of our dynamic team, you can lead the way, as we continue our journey towards high reliability care!</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Right now we are looking for a <strong>Physician Assistant</strong> to work with our <strong>Acute Care Surgery Team (ACS Services)</strong></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Employment Status:</strong> Temporary Fulltime<strong>Duration:</strong> 1 Year<strong>Hours of Work:</strong> Currently Monday to Friday Days, 8 hour shifts 630 am to 230 pm (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements). This role does not require evening or weekend coverage.<strong>Location:</strong> Hennick Humber Hospital, Wilson Site <strong>Labour Group: </strong>Non-Union<strong>Reporting Relationship: </strong>Director Surgical Program & IPAC<strong>Hourly Rate: </strong>$52.79 – 66.03 </p>\n<p>An exciting new opportunity to join Humber River Health in this new role within the Surgical Program. Working with a team of health professionals in an inter-professional collaborative model and under the supervision and/or delegation of a supervising physician (and in accordance with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario's policy on delegation). </p>\n<p>The Physician Assistant will function as a consistent member of the Acute Care Surgery team, helping improve continuity of care, patient flow, and communication across the inpatient surgical service.</p>\n<p><strong>Accountabilities:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Conducting patient interviews and taking medical histories</li>\n <li>Performing physical examinations and interpret findings</li>\n <li>Organizing laboratory and diagnostic investigations</li>\n <li>Performing certain controlled acts under medical directives delegated to you by a physician</li>\n <li>In consultation with a supervising physician, formulate and implement treatment plans and monitor patient’s progress</li>\n <li>Counselling patients on preventive health care</li>\n <li>Organizing patient follow-up</li>\n <li>Provide health maintenance education</li>\n <li>May participate in research activities</li>\n <li>Performing other duties within your competencies as a physician assistant</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Primary Responsibilities</strong></p>\n<li><strong> Inpatient Care</strong></li>\n<ul>\n <li>Conduct morning rounds with the surgical team, assisting with documentation of daily progress notes</li>\n <li>Perform focused physical exams and interpret laboratory and imaging results</li>\n <li>Assist with emergency department consultations.</li>\n <li>Monitor post-operative patients for complications and escalate concerns appropriately in a timely manner</li>\n <li>Coordinate urgent investigations and liaise with other medical teams when further consultation is required</li>\n <li>Assist with bedside procedures (e.g., wound care, drain removal, dressing changes)</li>\n <li>Complete discharge summaries, discharge prescriptions, and coordinate safe discharge plans, including sending referrals and ordering tests for follow up</li>\n <li>Communicate effectively with nursing and allied health teams in patient care and discharge optimization</li>\n <li>Liaise with patients and their families/caregivers to ensure timely communication and escalate any concerns in a timely manner</li>\n</ul>\n<li><strong> Administrative & Coordination Duties</strong></li>\n<ul>\n <li>Participate in multidisciplinary rounds with nursing and allied health teams</li>\n <li>Collaborate with nursing staff to standardize care protocols</li>\n <li>Track patient outcomes and contribute to quality improvement initiatives</li>\n <li>Serve as liaison between surgical team and other hospital departments</li>\n <li>Participate in the education of learners, including medical students, residents and PA students</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Qualifications:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Graduate of a recognized Physician Assistant program and successful completion of the Physician Assistant exam required</li>\n <li>Certified Physician Assistant (CCPA) or eligible for certification through the Physician Assistant Certification Council of Canada (PACCC)</li>\n <li>Current Basic Cardiac Life Support required</li>\n <li>Experience working in with General Surgery Acute Care Surgery, General Surgery, emergency medicine, critical care, trauma or hospital medicine preferred.</li>\n <li>Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and with respect in both a verbal and written format with patients, public, colleagues and other health disciplines.</li>\n <li>Demonstrated competency to perform complete and appropriate clinical assessment and development of a treatment plan in accordance with medical directives.</li>\n <li>Proven problem solving and critical thinking skills.</li>\n <li>Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative medical model of care with all members of the health care team.</li>\n <li>A team player with the ability to develop and maintain partnerships with multiple, diverse stakeholders.</li>\n <li>Flexible, organized, and self-directed within scope of practice, has initiative and independent judgement.</li>\n <li>Demonstrated ability to multi-task and troubleshoot with critical and creative thinking.</li>\n <li>Excellent work and attendance record.</li>\n <li>Must demonstrate Humber River Health’s values including Compassion, Professionalism and Respect</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p>All employees of Humber River Health agree to work within the legislated practices of the Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario. </p>\n<p> All employees of HRH are responsible to contribute to a transparent culture of patient and staff safety by adhering to and abiding by patient and staff safety policies and procedures set by HRH.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Why choose Humber River Health?</strong></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>At Humber River Health, our staff, physicians, and volunteers are lighting new ways in healthcare.
