Description

Miscellaneous Metals Fabricator Location: Richmond, VA Schedule: Day Shift | Monday–Friday | 5:00 AM – 3:00 PM Overtime and occasional Saturday work may be required. Pay Rate: Starting at $22.00/hour Compensation may increase based on experience and welding/fabrication background. Role Overview This position is responsible for fabricating and assembling a variety of metal components such as rail systems, stair assemblies, ladders, and other miscellaneous steel items. The role requires strong blueprint comprehension, hands-on fabrication ability, and the flexibility to work efficiently in a production-oriented environment with changing priorities. Key Responsibilities Fabrication & Assembly Fabricate and assemble metal products such as rail systems, stair assemblies, ladders, platforms, and other custom steel components Interpret fabrication drawings, shop plans, specifications, and work orders to ensure accurate production Perform layout, measuring, cutting, fitting, welding, and finishing operations according to project requirements Verify dimensions, fit-up quality, and overall workmanship throughout the fabrication process Maintain high standards of craftsmanship while meeting production schedules and deadlines Equipment Operation Operate fabrication machinery and shop equipment including: Saws Shears Press brakes Welding equipment Utilize hand tools, measuring instruments, and fabrication equipment safely and effectively Follow all equipment operating procedures and safety guidelines Quality & Production Support Inspect completed assemblies to verify compliance with drawings and quality standards Work collaboratively with supervisors, engineering personnel, and fabrication team members to ensure project success Identify fabrication challenges and contribute practical solutions to improve efficiency and quality Adapt to changing priorities and production schedules while maintaining accuracy and productivity Assist with multiple projects as needed to support shop workflow and customer deadlines Workplace Organization & Safety Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work area Follow all safety policies, procedures, and manufacturing best practices Properly store materials, tools, and equipment when not in use Contribute to a safe and productive team environment Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Prior experience in metal fabrication, particularly involving miscellaneous metals, railings, stairs, or architectural steel products Proficiency with Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW); welding certifications are beneficial but not required Ability to read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, and shop documentation Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work Effective organizational and time-management skills Ability to manage multiple assignments in a production-driven environment Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform regular standing, bending, and material handling activities Team-oriented mindset with the flexibility to shift between projects as production demands change Work Environment Manufacturing and fabrication shop setting Exposure to dust, welding fumes, paint vapors, exhaust, and other industrial conditions Regular exposure to shop noise, moving machinery, and electrical equipment Early-start weekday schedule with occasional overtime and weekend work based on production requirements Safety Requirements Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including: Safety glasses Protective footwear Hearing protection Appropriate work clothing Long pants must be worn at all times on the production floor Compliance with all workplace safety policies is required
