Description

The YMCA of Greater New York is here for all New Yorkers — to empower youth, improve health, and strengthen community. Founded in 1852, today the Y serves a diverse population of more than half a million New Yorkers who learn, grow, and thrive through programs and services at our 24 branches. Community is the cornerstone of the Y. Together, we connect active, engaged New Yorkers to build stronger communities. To help fulfill our mission, we cultivate a culture of learning, leading, and collaboration to enhance community impact. Through our talented staff and “LEAP” career framework (Leadership, Empowerment, Accountability, Personal Growth), we are committed to a people-first approach that fosters trust, inclusion, growth, and development for all. The YMCA of Greater New York Association Office is seeking a Human Resources Intern. Under the supervision of the Senior Executive of Employee Relations and Talent Acquisition, the Human Resources Intern will gain comprehensive exposure to core human resources functions. This internship provides hands-on experience across multiple HR disciplines, including talent acquisition, employee relations, benefits administration, compliance, and learning and development. The role is designed to support daily HR operations while offering meaningful opportunities for professional development and practical learning. Key Responsibilities: Talent Acquisition Support the full-cycle recruitment process by assisting with resume screening, candidate tracking, and interview scheduling. Maintain accurate and well-organized recruitment and onboarding documentation within the Cornerstone system. Assist in the preparation and coordination of career fairs, including logistics and candidate engagement materials. Collaborate with the Talent Acquisition team to help develop and implement targeted sourcing strategies, with a focus on Aquatics and seasonal positions. Employee Relations Review the Employee Relations memo process and learn best practices for drafting clear, professional ER documentation. Gain hands-on experience navigating, updating, and maintaining the Employee Relations tracker to ensure accurate case tracking and documentation. Shadow Employee Relations cases and investigations to better understand how situations are assessed, including determining when formal investigations are required versus when immediate corrective action or coaching is appropriate (e.g., clear policy violations that may warrant written documentation). Desired Skills Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in a related major, with a strong record of academic achievement. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel. Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a professional and courteous demeanor. Demonstrated willingness to learn, grow, and incorporate constructive feedback. Proven ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality at all times. How to Apply: If you would like to be a member of our dynamic team, please complete our online application and submit your résumé and a thoughtful cover letter that explains your interest in the role and our organization. If you are a current YMCA employee, please submit your application through the Internal Career Site in Cornerstone.
