Human Resources (HR) Manager
Indigenous Climate Action (ICA) is looking for someone who is ambitious, personable and passionately committed to true Indigenous Climate Justice to serve as its Human Resources Manager . This position requires a deep understanding of the intersectional approaches of climate justice and Indigenous rights and the effects of colonization on Indigenous communities as it pertains to human relations and staff management within a non-profit organization.
This is a remote, work from home, online working position with priority given to Indigenous people who live in so-called Canada.

POSITION SUMMARY
Indigenous Climate Action is seeking a passionate, motivated and personable individual to fill the role of the Human Resources Manager . The Human Resources Manager will be responsible for the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures through a decolonized approach that supports our organizational goals.
The successful candidate will also be responsible for managing and nurturing our staff, fostering a positive work environment, and ensuring our HR programming incorporates ICA’s decolonial mission and values, while ensuring compliance with relevant provincial laws and regulations on a national scale.
The Human Resources Manager reports to the Director of Operations & HR . In addition, the Human Resources Manager will work collaboratively with the Nourishment Pod team overseeing human resource management for staff located across the country.
The position requires demonstrated competency in the following areas:
Demonstrated progressive experience in employee relation management and/or leadership positions (working in a non-profit is an asset)
Demonstrated ability to think strategically and develop HR plans and programs that align with the organization's strategic goals, vision, and mission.
Proven experience working with a not-for-profit Board with a diverse group of people
Experience and success in motivating, recruiting, developing, retaining, and mentoring high performance, mission-driven, and results-oriented teams.
Excellent communications skills in an online environment, including the ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels of the organization, as well as external partners and stakeholders.
Demonstrated experience in working remotely in a home office environment.
Excellent verbal and written communications
Lived experience in, or demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous peoples' rights, cultures, and histories, as well as the impacts of climate change on Indigenous communities locally and around the world.
Demonstrated commitment to advancing environmental justice and practices of anti-oppression within the organization and its HR policies, programs, and practices.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Co-develop and implement HR policies and procedures that align with our organizational mission and values and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
Oversee the recruitment and onboarding process in coordination with the Operations Team, including developing job descriptions, sourcing candidates, performing reference checks, vetting and making recommendations for the recruitment and retention of employees.
Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations related to employment, including workplace health and safety, employment standards, and human rights legislation for staff located across provincial jurisdictions.
Oversee and manage performance reviews and improvement plans in conjunction with the Operations Team, ensuring that they are conducted through a decolonial lens in an equitable, fair, and consistent manner in accordance with our policies and procedures.
Foster a positive work environment that supports employee engagement and retention, including incorporating ICA’s Healing Justice principles and programming to existing and emerging policies and procedures.
Manage employee relations issues, including conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and employee grievances.
Co-develop and manage the HR budget, including forecasting additional HR staffing needs and managing compensation and benefits programs in conjunction with the Finance Team.
Ensure compliance with our organizational policies and procedures, including confidentiality and data protection policies
Maintain accurate and up-to-date HR records and ensure they are securely stored and accessible, implementing new systems as needed
Support ICA Leadership and the Operations team to remain up-to-date on best practices in personnel policies, and keeping up with provincial and federal employment law.
Build and maintain strong relationships with other departments and stakeholders, including the ICA Board, Steering Committee, employees, and external partners, including liaising with legal counsel as directed to ensure compliance with applicable laws.
Collaborate with other ICA Directors and report to the ICA Board when required
Other assigned duties
QUALIFICATIONS:
CIHRP, CHRP, or CHRL certification required
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is an asset
A minimum of 5 years of experience in HR management, preferably in a non-profit organization or within the Indigenous community.
Strong operational acumen and a history of leading transformation and growth and leading a similar or larger size organization successful with proven reputation
Strong knowledge of Employment Law and regulations, including workplace health and safety, employment standards, CRA application across Canada and human rights legislation.
Proven experience managing and developing staff, including conducting performance evaluations, developing professional development plans, and other employee development programs.
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels of the organization, as well as with external partners and stakeholders.
Demonstrated experience in conflict resolution.
Strong commitment to ethics and integrity, maintain confidentiality, and comply with all relevant laws and regulations.
Excellent understanding of confidentiality, and process for dealing with HR confidentiality matters.
Familiarity with benefits applications.
Ability to take direction and work independently with little or no supervision
Computer literate including Google Workplace Suite, Slack, Monday.com, etc,.
Ability to travel locally and internationally.
A deep understanding and commitment to Indigenous Rights, environmental justice and practices of anti-oppression.
Having a working computer and strong internet access is essential for this position
Member of an Indigenous community and fluency in an Indigenous language an asset.
The position is full-time and entails a 30-35 hour work week. However, some travel and evening/ weekend hours may be required. The successful candidate must be willing to be flexible and work hours required to meet ICA expectations.
SALARY: $85,000- $100,000 annual salary + MERCs + health benefits + proD + office subsidies
