Job Title: Supported Child Development Community Consultant
Employment Status: Regular Full Time
Location: Penticton
Hours: 35 hours/week
Closing Date: June 29, 2026
Job Summary
The function of the Supported Child Development (SCD) Community Consultant is to support Childcare Centres, the South Okanagan/Similkameen, with the inclusion of children who require extra support to attend the childcare centre.
The SCD Community Consultant provides support and mentorship to both Childcare centre staff and SCD Assistants. The SCD Community Consultant provides case management for the Childcare centres on their caseload.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or early childhood development or an early childhood development related field (Child and Youth care, Psychology, Social Work, Education) with a minimum of three years’ experience in inclusive childcare settings or a combination of related training and experience.

Early Intervention and Prevention Training.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of family centered practice early intervention, child development, and services that support children with developmental delays and their families.
Knowledge of developmentally appropriate early childhood practice and inclusion, and the ability to model and communicate these concepts to staff, childcare settings and families.
Comprehensive knowledge of community childcare resources and other community support services.
Knowledge of cultural and socio-economic issues, including family systems and culturally appropriate
Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Adherence to OneSky policy and procedures, Code of Ethics and Confidentiality Agreement.
Ability to maintain a positive, professional presentation.
Skill in administering a range of formal and informal developmental assessment tools.
Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel and Publisher) and internet/email usage competency.
Ability to work independently and to manage time and workload effectively.
Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development training/courses.
Responsibilities
Consultation to Families
Support Childcare Centres in the development and implementation of individual service plans for children that reflect the choices and priorities identified by their families.
Support Childcare Centres to facilitate transitions for the child to other programs/services including but not limited to: Kindergarten, youth programs, adult services and other communities.
Participate in team meetings with families and other team members, as required.
Support Childcare Centres in providing information and resources to the family regarding child’s specific developmental delay, to enhance their knowledge of child development.
Uphold the family in their role as the primary caregiver to make informed decisions on behalf of their child and themselves.
Support Childcare Centres in advocating for/ with them the families.
Support Childcare Centres in making referrals to relevant community resources, programs and agencies, as required and requested by families.
Provide training as well as 1 on 1 support and feedback to Childcare centre staff in strategies that help increase the children’s integration into the Childcare centre.
Consultation to Childcare Providers
Support the childcare setting to develop and implement inclusive philosophies, practices, policies and procedures.
Provide information, resources, suggestions, strategies and training to support inclusive practices, family-centered and culturally appropriate practices in childcare settings.
Work collaboratively with childcare settings to support their development and implementation of Individual Service Plans.
Document supports provided to the setting according to OneSky policy and procedures.
Responsibility to Program
Where applicable, maintain comprehensive and up-to-date documentation in participant’s files including but not limited to: Goal Planning Sheets, Support Guides, Program Consents, Individual Service Plans, Case Notes and communications.
Conduct observations and complete formal and/or informal assessments of children in the Childcare centre.
Where applicable input participant information into OneSky database and use database for file maintenance, service plan creation and statistical information.
Provide statistical information on caseload and program reportable to the Program Supervisor or Designate at the end of each month.
Participate, when requested by Program Supervisor or Designate, in interviewing, hiring, orientating, training, and evaluating Supported Child Development Assistants according to OneSky and Supported Child Development procedures.
Provide support and mentorship to SCD consultants working at the Childcare centre.
Provide feedback about SCD Assistant’s job performance to Program Supervisor or Designate.
Provide resources, training and support to SCD Assistants to support excellence in service delivery.
Work co-operatively as a member of the Supported Child Development Team.
Community Partners
Work with community partners, including but not limited, to Child Care Resource and Referral, OSNS, Community Care Facilities Licensing, Infant Development Program, all Licensed and License-Not-Required childcare programs, School District and Child and Youth Committees to enhance services and resources available to children with support needs.
Actively work to enhance capacity in Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities in support of access to services.
Responsibility to Agency
Maintain a commitment to maintaining inclusive quality service environments that provide participants with respect, and value their choices and abilities.
Maintain confidentiality.
Support and maintain CQI initiatives and accreditation requirements.
Participate in OneSky meetings and events as required.
Support OneSky’s mission, vision and values.
Perform any related duties as assigned and/or required to maintain the operations and integrity of the program.
Working Conditions
Travel within the South Okanagan/Similkameen region may be necessary.
