POSITION : Program Coordinator/Faculty for Drama/Theatre POSITION AVAILABLE: 5/11/26 JOB SUMMARY: Galveston College invites applications for a full-time faculty member in Theatre Arts starting Fall 2026. This is a 9-month, continuing, tenure-track position. The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence in teaching in and developing a practice in creative artistry. and developing a practice in creative artistry. Teaching responsibilities of this position consist of teaching 15 credit hours per academic semester. Production responsibilities of this position include producing, directing, designing, and technical directing for four productions per academic year (two per semester). This position calls for extensive experience and knowledge theatre and basic knowledge of technical theatre management. (See the full job description at: Program Coordinator Job Description ) PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach DRAM courses as assigned by the Dean, Assistant Dean, or Department Head, providing instruction at a variety of times and in a variety of modalities. This includes preparing and utilizing a course syllabus and assessments for each course using guidelines established by the institution, evaluating students’ performance through a variety of means to measure timely progress, and assist in the development, distribution, and collection of assessment data for courses and program outcomes/objectives. Direct, or facilitate the direction of, a minimum of 4 student-led theatrical productions annually. This includes personally directing select productions and managing the recruitment and artistic integration of guest conductors as needed to maintain high production standards. Productions include public performances scheduled for evenings and weekends. Maintain current knowledge of effective teaching methodologies, delivery methods, classroom media, and educational resources by participating in required/applicable professional development activities. Recruit students for the program using a variety of methods including, but not limited to, direct school visits, email/phone communication, and networking with area theatre arts directors. Collaborate with Marketing, Media Relations, and Web Staff to create and maintain production publicity and program web content, working in conjunction with Division Leadership. Demonstrate a commitment to student engagement, student success, and instructional excellence Provide recommendations to the Academic Dean, Assistant Dean, Department Heads, and Curriculum Resource Team regarding curriculum. Facilitate student participation in regional and state-level theatre organizations and festivals such as ACTF, TxETA, and TCCSTA. Assist with awarding of endowed scholarships to theatre arts students. Demonstrate a positive and professional relationship with students, colleagues, college administration, and the community. Possess a passion for teaching community college students. Demonstrate effective communication skills, both written and orally. Abide by all college requirements for orientation, attending meetings, and serving on committees. Responsible for other related duties as assigned Additional responsibilities include student advisement; mentoring students in academic and production settings; participation in program assessment and curriculum development; and other committee and university service as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree in the teaching field (Theatre) or in another subject that includes at least 18 graduate hours in Theatre Arts. Evidence of excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level, demonstrated via a teaching philosophy statement and a clear record of commitment to undergraduate teaching, student supervision, and mentorship. College Level Teaching Experience, including distance education training/course development At least 2 years of experience directing shows at a collegiate institution or with a company of equal/greater skill level Season programming: Experience in play selection and artistic budgeting for a theatrical season Technical Collaboration: Strong understanding of technical theatre 2+ years’ experience teaching theatre at the undergraduate level PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: College Level Teaching Experience, including distance education training/course development At least 2 years of experience directing shows at a collegiate institution or with a company of equal/greater skill level Season programming: Experience in play selection and artistic budgeting for a theatrical season Technical Collaboration: Strong understanding of technical theatre 2+ years' experience teaching theatre at the undergraduate level Evidence of additional area(s) of teaching expertise depending on the candidate's teaching qualifications and abilities: Acting, Directing, Playwriting, Dramaturgy, World Theatre History, Script/Text Analysis, Introduction to Theatre, and/or expertise in performance traditions Active membership in at least one union or professional organization and/or knowledge and/or experience in the professional industry.
