This position has a term length of 33 months.
Location - This role is in-person. Work primarily takes place at the University of Alberta, North Campus and some travel to Campus Saint-Jean, Edmonton, as well as Augustana Campus, Camrose is required.
Are you a collaborative leader passionate about mental health, harm reduction, and building inclusive campus communities? The Recovery on Campus (ROC) Coordinator is an integral member of the Student Success & Experience interdisciplinary mental health and wellness care team. Serving as a vital bridge between the broader University of Alberta campus and the University of Alberta Recovery Community (UARC-ROC) team, this role is a key driver of recovery-focused initiatives on campus. Embedded within the Wellness Supports team, the ROC Coordinator is responsible for the ongoing development, implementation, and coordination of a comprehensive Collegiate Recovery Program. The primary objective of this role is to intentionally destigmatize recovery while supporting, growing, and strengthening a vibrant student recovery community.
Responsibilities
Conducting program development and service provision; this includes hosting substance-free social events, peer support meetings, etc. Developing strong partnerships and positive working relationships with all relevant campus partners, greater community services, and UARC-ROC members. Contributing to campus education and awareness of a recovery continuum model that is not solely abstinence-based but which incorporates harm reduction programming and education. This includes the use of websites, social media platforms, etc. Facilitating an interdisciplinary care model that incorporates collaborative support between the Student Success and Experience team members and community partners (ie. Primary Care Alberta, Recovery Alberta, etc.). Referring students and staff to outside health and social agencies as required. Maintaining records in accordance with appropriate legislation, University guidelines, policies and procedures, and ROC Seed Grant requirements to measure program progress and outcomes. Establishment of scholarship/awards for staff and faculty, including review and selection process. Providing support focused on peer connection, wellness promotion, resource navigation, and connecting students to approrpaite campus and community services when additional support is needed.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Public Health, Addictions, or a related field is required. A working knowledge of mental health, prevention, harm reduction, substance use or addictions, recovery, and community building is essential. Experience in program development and working within interdisciplinary teams is considered an asset.
